Hello everyone,
I continue my journey up the evolutionary ladder of diy projector making. After having bought a dud QA-2500, I have now moved on to stripping a LCD monitor.
Stripping the panel went well, although my heart did stop when one of the ffc ribbons slipped out of it's holder. How glad was I to find out they are supposed to do that!
I see now what people meant by "FFC problems." Both the ffcs in my monitor are shorter than ideal. Per a suggestion on this forum, I have ordered a 6-inch 16 circuit ffc jumper which should allow me to extend the Y-cable far enough to reach.
My real problem is the other ffc. It's the 50 circuit connector that goes from the logic board to the LCD itself. The largest size jumper I have found searching the internet is only 40 circuits. The current 50 circuit ffc attached to the board is JUST long enough, but it would make my work a million times easier if I could increase it's length my 6 inches. Sadly, that kind of offer I have only seen in spam emails.
So... has anyone here dealt with a 50 circuit ffc before? If so, how did you lengthen it? Is "FFC Jumper" even the correct thing to be googling for?
Thanks.

What many people do is get a flat cable and socket from somewhere like DigiKey. You can see on that page various length 50 position cables and sockets. Next you put the ends of your existing flat cable and your extension cable together with the contacts facing each other and insert them together into the socket and lock it closed. Make sure your cable has the same pitch as the extension you get (for the .5mm pitch cable a 50 position cable is 25.5mm wide).
The extension cable would need to have one of its connectors on one side of the cable and the other one on the other side. If not, the connection will be flipped when the cable is plugged in to the original connector.
No, that is incorrect. The connectors should be on the same side as those on the page I linked to. If the contacts were on opposite sides of the cable then they would be flipped as you say once you joined them at the socket. With the contacts touching each other the ends of the two cables are inserted into the socket resulting in the scenario I've sketched quickly. The FFC contacts in the socket are facing each other and the contacts on the other ends of the cables would both be facing down.
