I need to build a 5.1 channel home theater amplifier with surround system for my home. I have to connect the various audio inputs from TV, DVD Player etc. Also i need help in building the speaker system for the amplifier. I need to add FM Tuner with USB Port to play songs from the USB drives. Can anyone please provide me the details to build the home theater system of my own.

It will take you many months, a lot of money, much learning and at the end, you could have bought it cheaper. Honestly.
Agreed, the price of suitable 5.1 amps globally, is much less than parts cost even, unless you are trying to recycle junk and have heaps of spare time to research and carry out the different disciplines for microcontrollers, USB porting, Dolby/THX sound processing etc. If you have even less cash than required to DIY even, buy used - cheaper again.
All this doesn't stop you taking a suitable decoder without built in amplifiers and adding a DIY amp setup. You may even be able to tweak the decoder a little as well.
or buy something cheap on ebay and take your chances. I have seen some older rotel units around (huge), since everything has gone to HDMI, everyone is dumping those old video/audio switchers.
It is a big effort to make your own, I know I abandoned my 7.1 project and scaled it right down to a small portable unit to get my feet wet.

You could use one of these "car mp3 sd card fm" thingys.. from DX.com
And buy 5 lm3875, 76, 86 boards from i dont know here, you will never ever get surround sound from there, then you need one of these "surround sound decoders" can be bought...
But i think they use optic...
You know... It will be pretty excpensive and it may sound horrible, and I belive it would be waste of time....

For a 7.1 ch amp, would be crazy not to do it in class "D" using TPA3116/3118 or similar. Who needs class 'ab' performance for talk, scream, crash, boom, bang? or listening to compressed audio format?

fyi - I bought a new Pioneer HT Receiver to give me the functionality I want. I will tap off the output from the digital board the internal analogue pre-outs and take them outside the box to a DIY amplifier.
Hi,
Thanks for all of your replies. The surround sound is not important for me.I just wanted an amplifier with a high power 5.1 channel output.I dont need the HDMI connectivity.

If you want 5.1 surround channels, where ever will you find the 5.1 analog channel inputs if they are not output from a 5.1 etc. Receiver? Whether it is old or newer style HDMI connective is not important but if you wish to process digital signals, which I think you need to, you must have digital decoding circuitry. There may be be stereo analog outputs on your equipment but you cannot derive surround sound from analog stereo.
If you want appropriate suggestions, its necessary to know how much of the necessary equipment you already have. Still, if all you really want is an audio amplifier built with five inputs, five channels, five power outputs and a line output for a subwoofer, it doesn't take a lot of thought to understand what is needed for that.

i had thought about something similar, i have a decade old pioneer amplifier... I love the thingm ive always been impressed with it
I was considering the best way to convert the device to be able to handle the HDMI switching/pass through, knowing that HDMI is licensed would make it difficult to DIY
presumably, the "easiest way" would be to buy a 3rd party HDMI switch with a digital out, and then modify the amp to switch the HDMI source

Simplest way to do this, assemble yourself a multimedia PC(if you don't have a PC), with a good sound card, use it as a source for playing media (songs, movies, TV, FM etc.), and either make or buy yourself a 6 channel amplifier, 5 speakers and 1 sub.🙂
hi selva
hi,,,
greetings,
first you decide how much rms watts want per channel and sub woofer also then find a amplifier topology,
class ab or class d. design rules and tutorial are available in this site, so first learn how to design a amplifier after you learn, start your design
if you want below 60 watts RMS per channel try class ab topology.

I think He just wants 6 analog inputs and 6 channels of amplification. he seems to be focused on just the amplifier part right now.
what i would suggest is building 3 class d stereo amps in one box, and steal the processing circuitry from an old used 5.1 system.

I have had similar ideas, like using an hdmi switch that has an ir remote, then programming and arduino with ethersheild to send the proper ir signals to control both the amp, hdmi switch, and anything else in my theater setup. then write an app for my android that controls the arduino.
Hi Kiruba,
I dont know about the wattage details. All i need is an amplifier with Ddigital media player & FM Tuner to build my own home theatre system to convert the normal TV, DVD player audio output into 5.1 audio output. The room size is 16X10 feet size.Kindly suggest me how much watts of sub woofer and watts per channel.

you can not build your own dolby digital decoder. it's just not possible. forget it.
you can not get the chip. and you can not get the software.

hi, seva
hi greetings,
you want drive a 8 inch speaker for 5 ch use minimum 60 watts per channel and
sub woofer want minimum 150w rms.
then you convert 2ch to 5.1 convert is not possible but its convert with decoder schematic its convert 50% of original sound signal use LFP for Sub woofer, differential amplifier for surround, band pass filter for center, or simple buy a decoder kit in market,
