41hz Amp10-Basic Blown, and Now Short

Hi all, first post.

I've been working on this 41hz amp10-basic, my first amp, on and off for two years now (can be hard to find time), and today I just assembled it enough for a basic test of the indicator leds, which I did, but while I was checking for 5v with a multimeter (because I just modified the 5v circuit according to the suggestion in this thread) my hand twitched (been kicking myself), shorting something. There was a small brief fire by the TA chip, and a few of its pins burned out of the casing, but the fuse blew and there appears to be no major damage on the main board. However, whenever I reconnect the power the (new) fuse blows immediately, I don't know why. Does anyone familiar with this kit have ideas on why it's shorting or how I might fix it and the chip? I have a spare TA chip, but it would seem to me very difficult to desolder the burnt one and replace. I would really like to get this to work, and appreciate any replies.
