Has anyone tried paralleling 5 1uf black gate type n's instead of just using one 4.7 value unit. I am tempted to try it, should lower inductance and the cost wouldn't be too much to try. Any experimenters out there??????????
I used to parallel caps like that (although of different values) but once read that it can smear the sound.
I don't know that my experiences supported that theory but these days, often for reasons of space, I prefer to go with a single 4.7 uF polypropylene cap. 😉

In my experience 5 x 1u will never sound as good as a single cap, especially for BG and for coupling.
The slight variation in caps will result in multiple discharge times smearing the signal over a very small timespan.

I don't have explanation, I just share my observation.
anyone tried using bg hi-q as a bypass cap with bg nx as output cap or super e-caps using hi-q as output cap? thanks =)
I tried them, but to me, N type sounds the best, both for coupling and bypas. It's more neutral, while NX and Hi-Q are softer and kinda tube like sounding.
I tried Super-E for coupling, but preferred a single cap with Non Polar print towards incoming signal (as orientation is important here)

To Upupa: to my comment:

This makes me thinking: did you ever try listening to different parts and compare them subjectively? 😉
To everybody: I just installed BG N type 4.7u caps at the output of my new DAC and they sound so good. It's really hard to find a better sounding film cap, and frankly, I wouldn't even bother. It's no wonder that Michael Percy used to write on his site that in some circles, BGs are regarded better to ANY film cap in coupling applications😉

Peter, I can talk about sound of different parts. Sometimes I hear difference, sometimes I do not 😉 . Ask PMA if I am deaf 😉 . But I am sure, that in many times are differences realy small, that talk about these is the same like talk about sound of growing grass 😎 .

I'd rather compare it to the sound different types of grass make when wind strokes them
Sorry guys, I just couldn't resist! 🙂

BECOME AS PAGES OF THE BIBLE.
All that grass...
No, they would need to smoke all that grass.😎

You know.....'they' always talk about them!Upupa Epops said:To Mark : Which slight variations ? 😉
😀
No, they would need to smoke all that grass.
But in this case, the quality is very important

I recommend the best swiss outdoor variety, growing in the alps.
The sound difference is extraordinary! 😀

Franz, I enjoy my hi-fi more when I have some white Toblerone instead of the original variety! Perhaps they will bring out a new variety with some of that Swiss grass! 😀
All that grass, part II
It's very good to know that you enjoy your hi-fi with a white Toblerone instead of having to smoke all that grass!😎
