I want to create a portable boom box. The amp i want to run needs 36 volts. But I also want to have a bluetooth and a usb out on the box that both need 12v.

What is the best way to get 36 volts to the amp but 12v to the bluetooth and usb out?

Should I use 3 12v batteries in series so i have 36 volts? Or should I use 1 12v battery and use a voltage step up for the amp? Will using a voltage step up add any undesirable noise to the sound?

300 watt is A LOT. You can create a huge amount of sound with <50 watt. Can you share some more details of your project?

In this situation I would choose for 3 batteries since you have to pull a huge amount of current on 12v to create enough amperes on the 36v line. Then use a step down module to get your 12v rail.

I have two kicker 6x9s CS Series | KICKER, CSS69 that are almost brand new and I want to put them to use. They have an RMS of 150 each. I want to build a boom box that can get as loud as possible without distortion with these speakers. I will be bringing it dirt bike riding and to truck races where it is loud, and also using it for parties in the desert after.
I am new to this project, should I use the kicker 6x9s or are they a waste?

Lutkeveld, thank you for your replies. I want to create two portable boom boxes out of two everyday household items. I want to create these and see if there is a demand for them with the crowd I hang out with to see if I could create a (very) small business out of it. I currently have a small business/re-sellers license, so I could probably get a discount on the components needed if I buy them in bulk (which I would be willing to after the initial test).

So, I want to make the loudest, great sounding radio I can with the dimensions I have to work with because of what they will be put in. I would like to stay under $150 in parts for the smaller radio and under $250 in parts for the larger radio. I only need sound coming from one side of the radio, not front and back.

My box dimensions are:
1) 17"long x 10" high x 6" wide.
2) 12"long x 8.5" high x 7" wide.

I want OVERKILL and my ears to bleed 🙂 , as long as the music sounds great. I don't care how heavy they are.

I also need a 3.5mm input and bluetoogh connectivity.

With my dimensions, what would you recommend?

Yeah, so much for imageshacks and other cloud services assurance that photos will be saved indefinitely. Took just 3 year before the first ones were corrupted. Now 7 years after first posting they're all but missing.

Anyways, a vast number of people from across the globe have built Boominators. Some have been kind enough to post image on the facebook page too. Others can be found doing a google image search. I sadly don't have the original photos anymore (HDD crash many years ago).
