3-way with Seas C18EN002/A (modified KingRO4Y)

Looking at a new project for next summer and one option would be to modify my current DIY speakers to accept new parts.

They are 2-way with top part ~7l sealed in 210x210x300mm, currently housing Alpair 10.3 but the upgrade would be Seas C18EN002. I need to route a bigger cutout but that should be no issue.

The bottom part is 900x210x300 ~40l vented ~25Hz tuned enclosure with active subwoofers. I will probably update these with Ultimax 10-22 or similar.

I would need to cross the Seas at around 80Hz, will that have any issues?

Looking at the simulations it should work nicely even though Seas Fs is 98Hz, room gain will raise the low end more than enough.
Currently if I raise the crossover higher the sound starts to localize to the subwoofers and there is a clear difference in tone. Maybe with the new parts that won't happen...

Thanks for the new suggestions, seems like the Kartesian is a new name.
Looking at the sims, the Kartesian starts to drop quite early from 300Hz with -3db, it doesn't really fit into a sealed box or actually any reasonable box that I simulate.

It looks like a nice driver for small vented boxes, my bluetooth speaker could do with one if they weren't so expensive!

Lars, for 3-way speakers, you can comfortably cross woofer around 200-400Hz range and shallow LR2. 80Hz recommendation is for a single sub located away from main speakers.

SEAS KingROY version 3 is the best recipe and I strongly recommend going that way, active with Hypex FA board! Box shape and woofer type are not essential, it is very simple to fix response in dsp. As well I recommend sealed box, eq and more power for the woofer instead of bass reflex. Room reinforcement in typical rooms at home give huge low bass boost!

My Sica coax have almost the same thiele parameters and measures almost the same as your sim. I eq bass/mid centered at 700Hz, q=1 with 3.8db (dealing with rising response at the same time) and shelve it up 6db from 176Hz. I get them flat to 100Hz...

It's temporary due to limitation of subwoofer but it' works for now. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to use a smallish coax 2-400Hz.

This escalated quickly into DSP and open baffle, unfortunately neither are not in my plans now. I want to run the Seas with the KingRo4y passive crossover except for the woofer highpass.

I was really just looking for the answer why I need to highpass the Seas at 200Hz instead of 80Hz? The simulations show natural decrease but the room gain will push it so high I need to EQ it down out anyway.

As noted, I have dual subs in the bottom parts that are crossed at 80Hz and if I raise the crossover the sound starts to localize into the subs.

Thanks, my listening levels are very moderate, two kids etc, looking at the simulations it won't exceed the Xmax unless pushed past 100dB

I think I'll make a foam mockup enclosure and order one driver to test, some quick measurements should tell if it's going to work or not.

3ways active speaker seas c18en 002/ accuton s280-6-282

Hi I building 3ways speaker using seas c18en002 with accuton s280/6/282 .
I have own accuton s280 and hypex fusion 503.
11liter for seas and 39 liter for close box for accuton.
I need help for accuton and seas crossover point .
Appreciate for any input suggestions.
Cabinet design are 24pcs plywood sandwich and front and rear panel will be use solid teak .
Best regards
Jack

With Hypex FA503, you can easily try out different xo points and slopes. I think the main thing is to reduce the excursion of the mid driver. With a driver layout like in your sketch, you can achieve a desireable 1/4 wavelength distance with a xo point between 300-400Hz.
That would minimise the xo lobing and reduce the excursion of the mid (probably) sufficiently.
Also the Accuton woofer can probably deliver it's range very conveniently.

Thanks deni09 . Original kingRoy speaker cross 200 hz and I will try with 300-400 Hz .

Thanks a lot .
Hello,
was your project successful? I have on my side a sealed box of 7-8 liters but in the middle of a very big front face of 45 × 99 cm. I also have a place to add a 15" or a 12" enclosed or BR in 110 liters (lr4 between 300 and 400)
I haven't done any rew measurements yet to find out which EQ to modify based on the seas presets for the hypex.
