I am looking to select a 5V out, 2A (or more), fixed voltage linear regulator, preferably in a TO-220 package. Anyone have any recommendations? This is for a smiple PS for a very low power computer MoBo project.

It appears to be a little-known fact there is in fact a 78 "S" family, of which the '05 will give your required up to 2A out. Same pinout as regular 78 series regulators! 😀

Just parallel 2 or 3 7805 ic regulatores for how much amps you want. this one's are 1A rate TO-220 pack.
Guess something like LM350k is unnecessary for you.

.....also LT323 does 5V 3A, but can only take up to 15V max input so watch your off-load unregulated supply!!

those switching regs are upgradeable too, experimenting this 2576 - output to nmosfet and trough 1k to gnd. mosfet drives the coil.
this thing was able to drive car halogen bulb @2,5v.. should also the dcg4/1000
no unsafe voltage on mosfet says the scope

Thanks...
Guys, I am looking for a simple solution here, so the 7805S looks like a perfect option for me.
