Hello everyone, and particularly hello the new ones come!
I sent a request for blow of hand, but I did not receive any answer. .... to show you that I wants also to help you, I have to gather on this message all the screens lcd of 15 inches which are easily dismountable. I had all this information on the forum... but all in single message.
know how it is difficult to find itself there among these hundreds of pages of forum???
I hope that this message will be a starting point for all the new ones!! and that it will count all the screens usable, in order to make save our money a little!!
please share your knowledge .🙄
finally... here a list, which I am on you aiderz has to increase
good's ones:
IO DATA AV
NEC 1545v
MEDION MD9759AH
has to test! good estimate of success!! :
VIEWSONIC VG 150
HYUNDAI L50A

fabulous
Hello sushy18
> IO DATA and THE NEC are simply fabulous!!!!
Please be so kind and explain me more what fabulous means.
I'm searching for weeks now for a TFT which will not
upscale to 1024x768 when i want to drive 800x600.
I need a greater "OHP to screen" distance in my room and
have to get a smaller panel or
i had to drive a 15" at 800x600 with black borders around.
Then i get nearly the 9" - 10" panel diagonale again, which
i need.
I was in several electronic whorehouses.
Some friendly people there have switched their videowall's
with many 15" TFT installed from 1024x768 for me down
to 800x600.
ALL, absolute all new models did a interpolating, scaling job
then. Not one modell has these borders around, like older
laptop panels.
Before i had to change my whole living room i will try
everything possible to find one which such a "feature".
Later, there is a Video to Vga Converter between so the
TFT has to do black borders without software/driver help.
That's my problem
> but i'can't try other models!!!
Please, itt would be very nice if you can test this 2 models
exactly with my problem decribed
I have to be sure before buy because i have spent 250$
for an Nview Panel which is damaged.
best regards

Okay, now i know that's not a common feature of
all new TFT modells to do this black borders
around a small 800x600 picture.
If someone would have told me that i hadn't to ask
in different threads so many times.
Thanx a lot rapsac

I've heard from people in the Nec topic that their monitors suffer from screen-door effect. But it's fixed after slight focus adjustment. Does this happen with any of the mentioned monitors? I'm looking at the BenQ FP557 as this is the cheapest available to me without overseas ordering ($529AUD or $313USD).
Has anyone tested this one. The high success chance given by sushy18 has interested me a bit.
Thanks

I will try to dismount it this week but if of another people put themselves at it that would avoid me spending all my money for the tests...!!!
don't worry Morien I'll Do my possible to help you...!!!

Thanks a lot. Much appreciated.
Unless it's too much to ask, would it be possible if you supply pictures of each stage of dissasembly? 🙂 The real extent of my known electronic abilities ends with me making a little battery operated thingy with an LED that blinks 🙂
Thanks

I take it your referring to my post yesterday in the NEC thread. The screen door effect is no worse than any other XGA panel. The effect is also very visable in manufactured projectors. It's just how pixels work, nothing you can do about it other than put it out of focus, or get a higher res panel. This is why I eventually want a UXGA panel.
Anyways, as far as the thread goes, yes, the NEC is awesome, and VERY easy to take apart. Lots of details over there.
To clarify that, the screen door effect is just the space between the pixels. It is no better or worse with different panels of the same res. They're all exactly the same. Whether I get a benq, a sharp, or even if I go spend $6000 on a Sony LCD projector (or whatever), and the native resolution is 1024x768, the screen door effect will be exactly the same.
Lifter,
o ok thanks for clarifying that. Is the screen door very noticable with the focus sharp? I'd feel like I'm getting greedy if I went beyond XGA as I'm just coming out of the idea of VGA panels 🙂 Plus I cant afford any higher... So this'll do 🙂
So the screen door is exactly the same as XGA retail projectors? Cos if so I'm sold.

Benq 567s
I've been lurking for a few weeks, finally took the plunge on purchasing components.
I'm finishing my basement, and have a nice wall area of 6ft tall by 8ft wide, recessed about 16" (hoping it might block some peripheral ambient light).
My gameplan is as follows:
I purchased a Dukane 4003 off e-bay, and a Benq 567s (on a wing and a prayer). I hope to try the 567s on the Dukane, just to get an impression.
I also found 2 LOA 65W worklights on e-bay (bright and white as hell) and found some dust-covered spare bulbs that I've stocked up on from the local hardware. Best I can tell, these LOAs were not mass produced, I actually found them by searching for Flourex, they were being sold as indoor grow lights.
If I am encouraged by my Dukane/567s progress, I might try to swap the light source in the Dukane for a modified LOA configuration.
I might also get brave enough to disassemble the Dukane for the lenses, and try to arrange it in a linear assembly like most people on here use - or, I might build a shroud for the Dukane like other guys.
Lastly, I purchased various objective lenses and filters from American Science Surplus, just as parts to play with. I did try two of the objective projection lenses that I got from them, by holding my Maestro PocketPC at their focal length in a dark room - lo and behold, my PocketPC screen was projected on the wall about 4' tall (albeit fuzzy). I was encouraged.
Anyways, my reason for posting in this thread - I dismantled my 567s tonight, and was very encouraged....this might be one for you guys to try. It has one major assembly in the back that contains the OSD microcontroller, and a power supply board. The OSD controller board seems to be connected by 2 very short flex cables to the actually LCD controller board, which runs along the top of the display. The LCD controller board connects to the LCD by 4 VERY custom flex cables. The sweetness is this: this controller board can be flexed out of the way of the screen. This screen is a good candidate for building a special rig for laying the PCBs out of the line of fire, but the good new is, if you are ginger about doing it, there's no major risk like trying to work with some LCD's I've seen which feed the control lines from both a side and from the top or bottom.
One caveat, I'm fully aware that this might be one of the infamous 262K color LCD's with interpolation, but I'm not quite sure yet. At any rate, I watched some video footage on it prior to ripping it apart, and was satisfied. I could become less so at 100".
I'll try to post pics when I can. Unfortunately, I'm going to be consumed for quite a while with finishing drywall, etc, but the prospect of this LCD projection is the "carrot" at the end of my endeavors!

LCD screens (and CRT's) work by dividing each pixel in thirds. The first third is for the red component of the color, the second is for the green, and the third for the blue. Look closely on your monitor you will see them. The reason why you don't see a screen door effect on your monitor is because the each 1/3 pixel is so small that from a distance, your eye blurs them and you get the result color of adding the 1/3 pixels ontop of eachother. You probably already knew that, but when you blow this up, the 1/3 pixels become bigger, so you can start to see each individual 1/3 pixel instead of having them blurred ontop of eachother.
So any one LCD panel on the planet with an XGA resolution blown up to 10 feet is going to yield the same screen door effect (if you do not blur the image at all).
BUT, there are some LCD projectors that overcome screendoor. They do this by using 3 separate LCD panels, one for the red, one for the green and one for the blue. Light is projected through each LCD, and converged ontop of eachother when it hits the projection lens.
You can simulate this yourself if you want to buy 3 LCD panels, but you would probably just be better of buying the Dell Ultrasharp.
Hi mikerich_indy,
Any new news about the BenQ 567s? I know the specs are good but how is the quality?
I know you mentioned its a perfect candidate for projection. Have you taken it appart? Any pictures?
I've already purchased 2 monitors that did not work out (Benq 581, Liton Litepanel 150) but I am now thinking of the benq 567s based on your info.
Cheers,
Exipnos.

I'm writing this in front of the FP567s but haven't done anything to it yet (it's in regular use). The contrast seems to be good and the response fast, though I'm not sure if you can trust the numbers published on BegQ site (contrast upto 600:1 ??). When watching DVD's on this display the background at the bottom seems to be brighter, but that's only problem if you use it as it is with it's own backlight. I also have a feeling that this might be a good one for XGA projector. There aren't any better I know for this price. Only problem is that we don't like to go back to CRT use with this PC!
the solution to your probelm is this, take it appart if it will work slap that baby on a OHP and may yourself a" No crt" monitor in any Size or if it looks like it wont work slap it back togeather and you have your LCD back again. LOL thats my 2 cents

Sorry, guys, no new status on this LCD.
As I said, I'm consumed with finishing my basement (just hung the drywall) before I move on to actually building my projector.
Yes, I did take the monitor apart; from the standpoint of being a worthy choice for our purposes, I can say that it is better than the others I've read about here in one regard:
It is easy to take apart and is easy to move the controller boards out of the way for purpose projection. As I said before (probably not too clearly), it only has a single board connected to the LCD glass itself, that board being connected at the top of the screen via several ribbon cables.
I folded this board away from the glass and laid both of them out.
That's as far as I've gotten. No pics yet.
However, I did see some pics on this forum a few days ago of another monitor that people were having luck with, and it had the same exact board configuration as this benq.
Regards

So the only problem is how to attach the panel and the circuit board to the case of your projetor, that's something I have to think about soon. It would be nice to have the controls so that they could be easily accessed without opening the case. There are six buttons in a row, and one of them is the power on/off switch.
Btw. if you use (HT)PC to send the signal to your DIY LCD projector I suggest using an ATI Radeon display adapter (Radeon 9000 series). With them you can turn the picture which ever way around (upside down, mirrored, 90 degrees twisted etc).

Mikko
