Hi,
I am looking to purchase some ALPS pots from e-bay and the guy is selling three types, 100K, 250K, 500K.
Which one will be most suitable for a Gainclone design (using either LM3886 or LM4780)?

250K and 500k types are mostly used for replacing pots in old tube equipment. 50k or 100k is more suitable for your purpose.

I am planning to use an OPA627 based buffer in my setup, so does the POT value really matter when using a buffer?
The POT will be located before the buffer!

Yes, 250k and 500k are still only for old tube circuits 🙂
For new tube circuits you would use 50-100k also.

As Peter said 50 k or even lower. I would have take 10 kohms if it had fit. Less resistance, less noise and sometimes less offset shifts.
