1'' tweeter + 4'' woofer build using a minimus 7 cabinet

I'm looking to upgrade my minimus 7 speaker. I think I want to use the same cabinet, because it looks pretty nice and it is curved. I don't have any wood working skills, so cabinet making would be pretty hard. A curved cabinet is definitely out of the question.

However, I'd like to replace everything inside: the woofer, tweeter, crossover, and maybe even the terminals to one that'll take a banana plug.

This speaker is going to be a full range travel speaker. Whenever I'm going away, I'm bringing these, so they have to have some bass. Otherwise I want really good sound quality. I'd like a sound signature like Paradigm speakers: mostly neutral, slightly bright. No dull sounding signatures like Energy or PSB or B&W.

Right now the woofer I'm looking at is the Dayton Audio ND105. It looks like it'll have the bass I want, and it is a drop in replacement for the minimus 7 woofer. As an added bonus, it is very lightweight, good for the weight requirements for flights.

Now I'm looking for a good tweeter and a crossover. I don't think I can find a quality tweeter that's a direct drop in, so I am willing to do some modifications to the faceplate to fit the tweeter in. A compression driver with a waveguide would be equally nice (and maybe more preferable), and the parts will probably fit nicely because I can just change the entire tweeter faceplate with the compression driver + waveguide.

I think the most difficult part will be the crossover, because I would prefer not to build a crossover myself. If I can buy a premade crossover, even if it's not a perfect match for the drivers, I'd rather do that. Crossovers seem to be far too complicated and time consuming to design and build, and I wouldn't have the tools either to build one.

The budget is up to $150 for both speakers. Preferably less than $100

Thank you guys and happy new year!

To get any kind of bass response out of the Minimus 7 cabs, you'll want a Qts of 0.7-0.9 for the woofer, or you'll lose pretty much all of your lowend. A rising response towards the bass, and a low Fs and Vas will help.

The ND105 will not have much bass in those cabs, as it needs to be vented to get the lowend.

Maybe that will help your search for the woofer.

The tweeter to fit the cutout really does not exist. You'll more than likely have to remove the stock units and adapt the old faceplate to a new tweeter unit. This will probably involve gluing the tweeter in, and sealing the old motor-mount holes with screws and nuts or just adhesive. Vifa has the OT19, OC25, and OX20 that will all likely work. Dayton has the ND25FN-4 that will also likely fit.

For terminals, the little 3/4" spaced 'amp style' terminals actually stick in the stock jacks fairly well for conversion to nanner jacks, but you can remove the old ones. Make a 1/8" thick Masonite board that fits through the woofer hole, and mount the terminals to it where they protrude through the old spot. Be sure to make it sealed well as you don't want air leaks.

I've helped a friend rebuild 2-3 of these, but he used NLA woofers that do work quite well. The OC25 sounds pretty good in this application.

Does the maximum bass output change by using the nd105 woofer in the minimus 7 cabinet? I plan on using an parametric EQ with the speakers. If the nd105's output is lacking due to the small cabinet reducing efficiency, then that's not too much of a problem for me. Right now I have a 20dB boost centered at 50Hz with Q 1, and at normal volumes I could actually get some usable bass out of the stock woofer.
