Yes you need copy of original part or frequency could be shifted and cause problems.

There are various different grades of ferrite and they are different (in permeability, saturation and frequency response). You need to know which is used. An old heat-degraded core will not be measurable (cooked ferrite changes its magnetic properties permanently).

BTW keep ferrite components away from strong permanent magnets too, they also permanently change the material properties.

Cores may be gapped and you'll need to measure the gap. The good news is the gap dominates the properties so the exact ferrite material becomes less crucial for gapped cores. And of course various sizes of gap are available...
