Hello,
First 5 pcbs batch is over. But I post if there is an interest for a next batch as users testing it are more than happy.
I worked several years to meet my expectations with the AD1862 20 bits DAC chip. Made several protos as I already worked with the boards made by painkiller and miro1360 projects long time ago.
So Why another pcb ? I wanted to stay NOS but a pcb enhanced for :
Mostly I think it is good enough to figth some cheap chineese DAC or even many DIY I listened as far the musicality is a concern. I listen to all music genres. It stays cheap for the quality. People whom heard it have very good hifi and have already a lot of DACs whatever TDA1541A, AD1862 already, AKM, ESS and find my it fantasstic and were surprisd by its musicality. It sounds not clinic and have clearness and transparency yet, voices have weigth and are not without incarnation. You can hear the bells, while it will not drills your ears... non fatiguing sterile DAC !
I think I have achieved something great SQ/P ratio. It neeeded 4 layers to reach the road map. I will not make a living from that but few sold pcb will cover a little part of the devlopment and tests if you ask about the motivation, A second one is I am fed up with people purchasing several cheap dacs one after another and loosing too much monney with staying in the same non musical family of DAC. At least according to me.
Price is 30 euros the 4 layers PCB +registered parcel shipment at cost. It is furnished with shematic and general BOM. PP family & friend.
Same PCB with my personal BOM and few provided capacitors is 45 euros. I advice this one as I spent time to voice it among a lot of op amps and voicing. The winner was not AD811 or opa1655 nore the op861 which is certainly the best of the 3 btw since you worka little on it.
What you will need is a compatible front end. the pcb has an header for the USB JLSOUNDS board as u-fl sockets on the bottom for Iancanada I2StoPCM or York from eclipsevl member's USB board at DIYA (this one is allowing to choose you crystal clocks if you want. There are other choice too in some countries like US (DIYHINK ad1862 front end iirc).
You need too at minimum 4 secondaries: a +5V/0/-5V supply and +12V/0/-12V if choossing a 12V for the op amps. the 12V being shared with in this scenario with the op amp if you want to stay cheap. You can add a third power supply according the op amps you choose if you need another voltage than the compatibility with the 12V analog side of the AD1862.
You need to be ablle to solder 0805 smd parts which is the lowest casing used on that bord to permitt it to be populated by most of pople.
The AD1862 dac chip are not provided. Best source is DIYAUDIO and Rochester or some already known Ebay vendor proved to be reliable. (US has one iirc)
If interrested put your id member in the next posts. It is an "Interrest MOQ Group Buy. Need 5 pcbs to targett a pcb order. Shipped from France (registered with insurance, around 15 euros often, pls ask).
Thanks

So Why another pcb ? I wanted to stay NOS but a pcb enhanced for :
- - a pcb allowing a layout for high speed SOIC 8 op amps and also a further follower voltage gain or buffer with a second soic 8 after the conversion if needed.
- - a pcb to be very quiet with digital and analog current zoning and segregated loops and no crossing of some return current.
- - a pcb that is versatile w/o trade off quality for the layout in order to test different I/V ; op861 TIA op amp, AD811 CFA op amps, the speediest VFA opamps, tube or discrete third board output. Permitting too independant voltage to choose between these several op amps : 5V, 12V, 15V, 18V or what you want as it is not feeding the dac chip which has its own PS plugs. I wanted some compensating external options for non unity gain op amps as well.
- - a pcb allowing 50 ohms digital and analog signals impedance matching and a very low inductance ground and Vref.
- - a pcb which can use electrolythic caps through hole without harming the segregated current loops according the layers and zoning... I like to play with caps ! But also smd parts where it matters.
- - I wanted the digital input to be compatible with sota third party I2S to AD1862 front end boards without wasting their layout.
- -I wanted to have through hole as smd for the resistor and capacitor I/V choice for testing the op861.
- I wanted the whole sounds very good to me and I had to make several prototypes.
