Which 3way kit from Troels Discovery-3WC-10 or Faital-10-430

Hey!

I've read everything I could read on this, I've counted the money, I've checked the space I have available. So it's down to these two. Both follow the same design concepts, both cost roughly the same money.

Which should I build and why? I like to hear EVERYTHING when I listen rather quietly. I like to feel the low end. Or should I look elsewhere for the same amount of money? Like Discovery-18W-mkII and an active sub?

RIght now I'm using the Seas 3WC mk 1 as my main setup. I want everything to sound better than that 🙂 I have a few pairs of other speakers as well, I'm really addicted to COAXes.

The 10-430 is the newer design. Troels says the 3WC -10 is better for low powered amps, as it's more sensitive. But the 10-430 still has decent sensitivity and he suggests 30 watts is fine for it.

Since you say you like to hear everything when listening quietly, you probably don't need high efficiency - unless your amp is low power.

For listening at lowish listening levels most speakers will not sound their best.I suggest you try introducing some EQ into your system. You might be surprised how much nicer your Seas 3WC will sound.A really good way of doing that now is through EQ functions on a streamer like the Wiim Pro.They are very affordable and are very user friendly. They sound very good too as long as you have a good DAC.

If you listen quietly without pushing your current speakers then I would expect little difference from slightly bigger speakers of the same configuration. They might be a touch better but it is likely unwise to expect anything more. This may be fine for you with the law of diminishing returns and such.

If you want more significant improvements then I would suggest looking at what your current setup is weak at and changing the speaker configuration to address it. One example might be for a speaker with a smoother more controlled radiation pattern (e.g. waveguides, shaped baffle, coaxial drivers,...). Another might be distributed subs (several not one) to better control the room modes and significantly improve the perceived quality of the low frequencies.

The value of the SEAS 3WC MK1 is high. I help to build a similar speaker, I know the sound.
Disco-3wc-10 will not sound better. Work also with these drivers too.
Faital-10-430 Better because bigger, more woofer surface.
"I wanted the Faital-10-430 to be the best 10+6+1 classic, I've ever made."
See also the sba 941
Go to bigger woofer is the key...
It is an absolute suggestion interpreting on your inputs. Not sure it is the right solution for your system.

regarding the coaxes: I have a pair made of cheap coax speakers from SB Acoustics and their reference XO. I just like them in rooms where I do not maintain a "listening position". At work, garage, kitchen etc. I move them around. And will do another pair probably quite soon.

regarding changing SEAS 3WC mk1. I just want to change my setup, just for the fun of it. I've had them for 7 or 8 years already. I have two "issues" with them. One is there's something around the mid/high X-over that makes them feel a bit off. Second is that 8 inch has the right size, but I'd like to hear more definition in the lower areas (organs etc). SEAS 3WC mk1 are great actually, but I just want something new.

@jerome69 have you actually heard both disco-3wc-10 and faital-10-430 and SBA-941?

I was also really looking at the Satori Coax from SB-Acoustics. I like the concept. SB says that it needs a highpass filter and needs to be run in a 3 way setup. I just love the way coaxials radiate the sound in a room and if done right, these totally "vanish", even if you walk around the room (what I do). But I do not see anyone doing a project like that. I know that I'll won't be able to design a x-over as good as more experienced people 🙂

To be clear I imagine the sound of a diso 3wc-10 because I used some discovery drivers in some old design. A little confusion to me with the thinking disco 3wc 8 not 10. But doesn't change the game. You will have better bass but not better mid. An other design Triade
Faital-10-430 don't know how it sounds but sure the bass is better than seas 3wc
Sba-941 I own a clone, I have other crossover points
SEAS 3WC mk1 I helped to build something very similar in a floorstander Astasia
I have enough elements to have an idea about these speakers 😉
