Tips, tricks and what not . . .

Hey everyone, Was just down at the bench wrapping up my pearl 3 kit before the chassis gets here plus a F5 duel rail power supply. Trying to decide which boards to build first for it (aleph 30 classic or M2x). Some quiet time got me thinking - Had a few totally random questions for the guys "in the know" . . .

Who makes the best / solid / decent of the following:
(Getting tired of el cheap-o amazon / big box stuff and would like to up the enjoyment factor / minimize the PITA factor

  • shrink wrap tubing
  • crimp on spades / rings
  • crimp on crimping tool
  • automatic wire stripper tool
  • best electrolytic caps (ha, just kidding)

What, if any, precautions do you take for grounding / static mitigation while working with the various semiconductor components?
Is it recommended to use a clamp on heat sink for these little guys or just be mindful of temp / solder time?

What's your personal favorite trick / tip you've picked up over the years of building?

As always, truly appreciate everyone's input- you guys are more than generous with your knowledge!

Cheers!

1) stripping tool- Ideal Stripmaster https://www.idealind.com/content/dam/europe/assets/Aerospace/P-2424 Custom Stripmater SS 04.18.pdf . Get the teflon jaws. I have 4 different versions to accomodate different wire sizes. Ebay, since they are expensive.
2) Shrinktube is not a simple thing. There different types for different applications, shrink ratios, and some with adhesive and even solder inside. I believe it was invented by Raychem. More than you ever wanted to know: https://www.te.com/en/products/heat-shrink-tubing.html Any name brand should be OK. I have 3 reels of Sumitomo that all work great.
3) Ideal for crimps https://www.idealind.com/us/en/cate...ire-connectors/terminals/spade-terminals.html and crimp tools https://www.idealind.com/us/en/category/product.html/30-500.html . Again expensive. If you want pure copper its more of a challenge. Metrology grade copper terminals are very expensive, hard to find and unneeded for anything else. Microvolt thermocouples don't have impact on audio.
