As the thread title. Could this be the new kid on the block that is both cheap and good enough (or better) performer? Is this model usable in a poroject and what can we do to solve possible shortcomings or is it OK as it is? Mine is on its way and I am curious. Are you too?

Reminds me of khadas tone board, but in lower quality. And khadas was quite bad. But for 30e, slap on good lps, add xing u30, remove those ferrite connectors, might be ok. With chassis, thats coming very close to, or more to already boxed up smsl. But can be done on the cheap with a smps with amyalice, connectors left on and amanero clone. But i have no doubth there will be already boxed up chifi for that price range as well.
There are not many other ES9039Q2M offerings for that price.
Please mind that I only require a digital source to convert D to A itself a nice way without much user intervention. The "1 box model" with which digital audio started off so preferably without using it externally with the usual interfaces, displays, knobs and such distractions.
If I would look for yet another external device I would not bother to look at a PCB/module as the additional costs will make it way less attractive.

ESS says: All AVCC pins must be powered with an ultra-low-noise regulatorSo let's see what this single board "CheapESS" has to offer!
Engineer: Hold my beer, no more words and made such a board in startpost with one 1117 3.3V reg for the whole board
Of course it will work somehow, but not nearly as well as it (ESS) could.
There are another boards on Ali with normal power supply schematics and normal output stage, not much more expensive. For ex:

With single dual opamp that board uses ES9039Q2M in voltage output mode so performance will be quite far from what ES9039Q2M is really capable of. Reminds me of the cheap and crappy ubiquitous ES9038Q2M voltage output boards (https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/es9038q2m-board.314935/).Could this be the new kid on the block that is both cheap and "good enough" (or better) performer?
Do you seriosly talking about comparing those boards? Look closer, I/V stage according to DS, 4pcs TPS regulators, etc
I will ask the mods to close the thread as it will be the usual DAC thread without useful contributions.
Thanks for looking!
Thanks for looking!
Just the fact that it uses tps regs in comparison to 1117, is something that would be pretty clear of how it would perform just in that matter. Layout seems cleaner on the other board, omron relays for mute. It's not a matter of if we disagree, it's that i'd rather buy that one for a little bit more if i had something like that in mind. Which with what you had in mind, would be a better choice. Unless you already ordered the one you linked. How do you know? Did you try it out?
