1 inch compression driver help

Hey Guys
I am trying to come up with a 1 inch
Compression Driver on a budget here
Trying to stay around $100 per driver.
Is there anything that you would say is on the Warmer Smoother side of the spectrum ?
Trying to stay away from ear fatigue here.
I will be using it with
The B&C me45 horn.
Thanks

In my limited experience with compression drivers, once they were equalized I didn't find a significant difference in sound between the Selenium D202Ti, B&C DE250, or the extremely short-lived Dayton CD1780S (with either diaphragm). But I was using them on an Eminence Beta-10CX, so they all required significant and different EQ to sound correct. If you want to keep your crossover simple, you might prefer the B&C simply because it's flatter and more extended overall on a more typical horn (according the spec sheet anyway).

Hi there,

if you want to understand better how it could work look at this

Screenshot 2025-04-23 224220.png

https://celestion-horn.netlify.app/results

i put in the data of the B&C ME45

https://www.thomann.co.uk/bc_me45_1_alu_horn.htm

and combined it with the Celestion CDX1-1747

with the mouth dimension 30 cm X 12 cm there is no horn load under about 1500 Hz

hope it helps, Stefano

Conversations like these beg the question: Isn't there a realistic way to hear a variety of horns and drivers? Maybe too far old school for modern times but it's just hard to like the idea that you have to buy it to try it and then try to recoup the cost when you find it's not up to your standard.

Well I had a few Drivers in mind
But cannot seem to decide between these, any thoughts?
B&C de250
Prv 290py
SB Audience ROSSO-44CD-PK
Beyma Cd171/fe pt

I have the PRV D290Py-B and measured it on a few horns and a PWT @ D290 Tests and the driver sounds good.

It does not go as low as the spec would suggest, but it would suit your XO @ 1.2Khz. If you get the "B" (bolt) version it includes bolts and a threaded adapter.
