Why cant TV control audio volume control with this Tendak audio extractor

Hi,

I want to use this extractor
https://www.tendak.com/collections/...converter-for-hdtv-soundbar-speaker-amplifier
to get me digital coax audio into an external dsp. But in the description of the device it is mentioned that TV volume control cannot be used with this extractor device with HDMI ARC connection between TV and device. Why is that?

In my understanding, the TV controls volume in case of PCM or LPCM stream and outputs the stream on HDMI ARC. Why cant TV volume control not work with the said extractor device?

Thanks and Regards,
WonderfulAudio

The TV volume control feeds only the TV's amplifier and this has nothing to do with any audio / recording outputs (analogue or digital) and this is by design.
Depends on the routing possibilities for the specific TV. I have had TVs with variable output for both analogue and spdif output. Analogue out will always follow volume control, spdif rarely. But in both cases you have to choose the specific output in the audio settings

Never seen it happen in this part of the world, but there's no reason why it must be fixed volume, unless it's by design. It should be fairly easy for a manufacturer to provide volume controlled outputs.

Yes, CEC (if available) should be of some help.

Thank you all for your responses. I had a few mail exchanges with Tendak and learnt that volume is indeed controlled by the TV but not by controlling the audio data. The volume is controlled by TV via HDMI CEC command to the connected device. The connected device in response to the CEC command is supposed to adjust its volume. Tednak ARC audio extractor does not support CEC, hence there is no way to control volume.
