My passion is (trying) to repair vintage Marantz amplifiers. I hope I can find a lot of useful information and hints for my projects here. My current projects are a PM 500 which did not work at all and a PM 7000 with a burned out main transformer.
Hello MadMeier,
For the most part, early Marantz was vey well engineered. The Philips years were a disaster, later Marantz is a well designed product. I'll exclude surround receivers, I don't think any are good.
My general advice? Don't second guess those engineers, and magic parts will not help you. The same advice holds for any good brand. Improvements are engineered, not copied from the 'net. Can they be improved? Sometimes yes, a lot. Most of what you read doesn't improve them.
