iMac wireless to DAC to preamp - how?

I've searched and searched but can't really figure out how this is done.

I'd like to stream my music from an iMac to something like a Forte Audio Interface DAC (cheap as chips on eBay) which will plug into an input on my preamp..

Do I need a bluetooth device with the Forte to receive the digital music file.

Or am I just barking up the wrong tree.

(I don't want to run a cable from the iMac to the Forte due to distance. (iMac is "here" and hifi is "over there.")

Thanks for any suggestions.

Or a Wiim Ultra. Or an Eversolo DMP-XX. Or...

Then the Forte can be skipped too. Bonus is that the devices can be operated directly but also with the iMac or a smart phone being a remote control too (besides streaming).

There are a ton, some done with R-PI boards and so forth. Here's my 2 cents since I have tested over 30 of these. The more memory the better, if you not doing any resampling then the # of cores is not really necessary. These are all done pretty cheaply with mother boards or SOC (system on chips) plug in boards. The Wiim have cheap options on Amazon, there ok. Better with a linear power supply.
You may want to use the internal dac on these instead of the Forte.

I was faced with the same problem, and am now using an iFi Zen Air Bluetooth DAC. Works just fine just to send audio over to the stereo from the computer. There are lots of choices, but more recent codexes (AptX) offer higher resolution than earlier Bluetooth standards.

Pi devices work great, but they do what your computer does, which seems to be not what you're asking for.

Just get a second hand Airport Express and connect it to your WiFi network.
It’s native 44.1 kHz and has a 3.5 stereo output, which is also an optical output if you wish to use a different dac.
Sound great. I think the model is A1392, but you need the square shape version with the mains cable, the older ones are not compatible anymore as far as I am aware.

AptX is kind of like 24bit MP3. When I was on the audio group at BT I proposed a number of possible ideas. Being small doesn't count in BT. The Sony setup is really the only good higher resolution BT Class protocol. Plus AptX has been around for a long time and if the HOST (Apple for instance) does not support AptX on all it's platforms then you go down to SBC which is basically sub MP3.

It better to go network into a DAC using a streamer or get a good NetDAC.
