Transistor Question" Are the EVO 2SA137 as Good as the Toshiba Transistors

Arrrr- Shark infested waters, replacement transistors be . . .

I don't have personal experience. Just a casual lookie-loo here so 2 cents worth. I want to say "trust Digikey, they would not carry and sell them in volume unless they were up to snuff", but I'm not 100% sure about that. At least EVVOSEMI has a website and claims to have made them, and buying through Digikey there has to be "some" level of protection and accountability right? Might not blow up, but as to whether they perform as well as the original is a different matter. I've seen plenty of counterfeit transistors that work well enough, but will end up sounding different than the other channel or not going the distance.

They are cheap enough, I would probably by enough for both channels from Digikey, then get a enough for both channels from Ebay "claiming to be Toshiba", put one style in the left, other in the right, and have a shootout. At least you have a "chance" of ending up with something decent.

Or, find a good cross that is in modern production by a reputable manufacturer. That is probably what I would do. What in the circuit are they being used for?

BTW- Might fix your title and post this under "solid state" instead of swap meet.

A1837 was just a 2 watt transistor in TO-220 package
Gain is really good usually 100 to 300 Hfe

Toshiba Still makes them under a different suffix
and they just put them in smaller TO-126 package

Do you actually need a 230 volt transistor?

Most just use the common 160 volt
TTA/TTC004B
Same old 2 watt or 1.5 watt in smaller package drivers but faster 100 MHz

The EVVO does claim good gain, same 100 to 300 Hfe
It is definitely not a 50 watt transistor with that much gain.

Original Toshiba 1837 was 20 watt Tc 25c temp 2 watt Ta 25c temp

Why it dont matter much putting them in TO-126
for 1.5 watt. A1837 and C4793 for 230 volts are sold as=

TTA/TTC006B

If the gain of the EVVO is actually 100 to 300
not too bad for a 230 volt transistor.
50 MHz compared to original 75 MHz
50 watts is a fantasy more like 2 watts at temperature to have that much gain.

Who knows

Reportedly these EVVO replacements don't match the original specs very well.

I have successfully used Sanken 2SC4382 2SA1668 as a replacement for Toshiba originals, but the specs are different enough to not be an exact substitute. A little slower and lower voltage rating.

However, I haven heard anything bad about UniSonic 2SC4793 2SA1837 or KEC KTC4793 KTA1837.
