I'm new here. I thought that some of you might be interested to know that while I love audio equipment and listening to great music, I am a professional musician...a violinist. I am the lead violin with the Fox Theater in St. Louis and I played in the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra for 20 years. Very few of my colleagues have high quality systems and sit down to listen as I do. Perhaps performing is enough for them.

Hello Adrian. I am not a musician, just a retired tech. The violin is one of my favorite instruments along with the guitar and piano. Many years ago I went to an afternoon concert to hear Midori with her accompanist Robert McDonald on piano at a local school here in New Jersey where I live. She could really play, but I don't remember what I heard composition wise. But I do remember that in the middle of her performance the woman that was his page turner goofed and turned two pages instead of one. (I think that's what happened) This really upset McDonald and he stood up and left the stage in a huff followed my Midori. After a short time they returned with a new assistant to finish up. I felt sorry for the woman since she probably turned purple from embarrassment.
Also back then I had the pleasure of twice catching Stéphane Grappelli in a solo performance in New York City when he toured the U.S. The first time was at Reno Sweeney's in downtown NYC probably late 80's. Aside from his wonderful music one thing stood out that evening. A female singer opened for him and had to endure a rude indifferent audience that just wouldn't shut up. They came for Stéphane, not her. She even sang "Quite Please There's a Lady On Stage" by Peter Allen. But they still kept talking and ignored her. New Yorkers can be the worst.
My last trip over there was for a Björk Vespertine concert in early October 2001 at Radio City Music Hall. Right after 911 with security up the wah zoo.
Anyway, welcome to the forum.

Thank you for the welcome. I have performed with Midori several times, and even toured with her while playing with 2 different orchestras...Saint Louis Symphony and the New York Philharmonic. That was exiting. Great that you attend so many concert events. That must enhance your listening. Yeah, too bad for that page turner. It's an easy mistake to make.
Welcome. I love the violin too. I also love old TV shows. When I think of the violin I think of "Little House on the Prairie" which was on when I was a kid. A couple years ago I went with my family to Dollywood, and just by chance we met that girl, Hillary Klug who was working as a musician there. She was super nice to my daughter. Just a really nice down to earth kid. Of course she plays the fiddle I get it, not the same thing. LOL. I almost didn't post this after the NYC City concert experience above, but come to think of it, I think it makes both stories better. Haha
