I was wondering what folks are doing to clean (and maybe polish) the copper-clad boards used in the older Philips-based CD players. I am referring to the copper on the component side.
The bare copper oxidises naturally and is no detriment to the operation, in fact the oxidation is a form of protection in its own right. If... and I don't recommend trying, you were to clean it up then it would need immediately coating with a suitable conformal coating to keep it in that state, otherwise it oxidise naturally again.
I agree its not pretty when it looks black and discoloured but it really is no detriment.
