Good reason 🙂 Unergonomic though as they now need to be longer (as they are also at the front) and they are always in line of sight. Cables will also always bend in a larger angle than usual possibly leading to breakage. If the internal cables also needed to be longer then it makes little sense.

Stuff that needs regular manual intervention/inspection should normally be at the front like power on/off switches, volume control, pilot LED etc. Cables are normally plugged in at the back non obtrusively and never looked at again.

Just opinions based on technical properties, no more no less. When looking with a technical eye one also keeps distances to transformers in consideration. RCA, signal cabling, volume control etc. are best mounted as far away as possible from transformers/SMPS. This often results in the transformer/SMPS in the front at one corner (with mains cabling routed at the side to a fused IEC inlet) and the sensitive analog stuff in the opposite corner at the back with its cabling routed as far as possible to that side. Thinking like that input selection, volume control etc. are best also placed there and operated with extension rods or relay controlled. Thinking like that mains voltage sections are always at the same side in all DIY devices certainly when they are stacked 🙂
