Hi folks,
I have here a Pioneer SX-1980 receiver. Even though I had this receiver fully restored, a problem still exists with the FM tuner section. Upon changing the dial to another FM station, 1- a heavy thumping noise is present, 2- I’m repeatedly picking up one particular station in 3 different sections of the dial, 3-after the heavy thumping noise while changing stations, a heavy hum is also present to go along with the heavy thumping.
Please let me know if any of you fellow SX-1980 owners know of anyone in the New York City area who repairs these monster receivers, as I don’t recommend shipping this for safety reasons. Sincerely.

Hi,
I have worked on one and had to adjust the tuner, it’s was interesting.
I can not recommend anyone in your area.
You say it was refurbished, what did they do?
I could give technical advice but if you are not technical then it’s not much use.
Whoever works on it, be sure to test the power supply voltages for DC and AC noise as a start. There is a 13 and 8.5 supply to run the tuner.
