Tangent woofer swap

I have a pair of tangent tm3 speakers with sp1014 woofers. Could I directly swap them with sp1039's and would it improve bass response?
They are driven by a Technics SA5160L amp/receiver and sound pretty good for my old ears. I have had the set up for 40 years but have the sp1039 s available to try as 1 of the sp1014s is now very quiet and click at higher volumes. The amp has just been overhauled as a channel blew, and all the amp condensers were replaced for longevity.
 
Bass response would ceratinly change. I expect bass would decrease without retuning the box.

The Audax Tangent used in the RS-4 is likely easier to find than the “exotic” B200s mined from old KEF boxes. The boxes are the same size, you’d have to check vent length and XO (worth rebuilding anyway). RS-4s were my favourite Tangents.

I compared the slightly larger Keff speakers at the time and prefered the more melow tangents tm3s with mainly guitar and violin music from memory. This was in 1976 at Merrow Sound and the keffs were more expensive and the tangent rs4's way beyond budget, and of course larger in height.
I will take your advice and rebuild the crossover circuit ( XO).
Indeed, the sp1014 's seem easier to find as they seem to have been made more for the DIY market, but I also saw tangent tm3's with a picture showing sp1039's in them on an auction site, so maybe it was a later mod?
What I am not sure of is if the circuit tuner board in the speaker is identical.

That is a good point. The speaker may have blown at the same time as the channel made a big buzz sound before going silent. In my checks I did swap over the leads I think , and the speaker fuse blew when I replaced it and tried again. Due to age that might have just been enough to blow the crossover circuit.
I am not familiar with speakers failing!

About 7.8 ohms. Marked as 8 ohms so should be about right?
Will it harm anything if I just put the leads from the amp straight on to the woofer, red to red of course on low volume??
If normal on low frequencies it must be the circuitry in the speaker box, I.e. crossover pcb ? With my ear to the tweeter that sounds o.k. ish.
