Kenwood KX-5X help

Please post in English:

Dear fellow forum members! I want to repair a Kenwood KX-5X deck, but I couldn't find the drawing and the principle of operation of the mechanical part. It's probably up on the hifiengine page, but since there's no registration, I can't download it to check it out. If anyone could help I would really appreciate it! Thank you!

Hi there; if your deck is the same as the KX-5XC, there is a service manual available on Elektrotanya:

I don't know how normal it is for the capstan motor to start immediately, the device I had until now didn't run continuously, but I heard that there is a device that works like this. I'm a little unsure. It feels like something is missing from the mechanics, a spring or something. I didn't find any springs on the two right-hand levers, which is strange to me, I don't know what makes them in the default position.

Many decks run the capstan motor all the time and the diagrams show the motor wired across the 12 volt rail which means it should run continuously.

It feels like something is missing from the mechanics, a spring or something. I didn't find any springs on the two right-hand levers, which is strange to me, I don't know what makes them in the default position.
If the deck has an unknown history then anything is possible. That kind of thing can't really be guessed at without having another one to compare to.

I managed to find a picture of the mechanics of the device on a Japanese guy's blog, and it is clear that the solenoid must have a spring. Maybe this will help someone later.

That sort of a spring... and its not rattling around inside anywhere?

So it sounds like the deck has been worked on before you got to see it. You might find such springs on lots of older decks (maybe scrap ones getting thrown out)

They must have tried to fix it, but they could only think that the arm was not moving because of the spring, so I think they took it out. The arm was really cramped due to the hard lube. The arm came off the shaft with difficulty, but it can be moved easily after cleaning. It will return to its original position almost by its own weight, but with a little spring it will work perfectly. That solenoid controls the movement of the heads, if it doesn't get power, it releases the dial with the return arm, which resets the heads. Anyway, its operation is very simple. Sorry if I was long 🙂
