My dreams are always about solving some problem. Never "drifting, falling, floating weightless, coming home" or "Let's break out the booze and have a ball". Always some problem to solve. This morning was a big wind is coming, most danger from flying debris. Get underneat the house? Inside cars in the garage (what if the door tears off?) Inside the small truck downstairs in the RV garage? Better act quick, outside exposure is dangerous! No matter how arbitrary, abstract, disconnected from current reality, the problem solving aspect is always at the core. Anyone else?
Sex solves a problem, at least temporarily. But may create new ones.
Last nights (morning’s) dream did involve weightlessness and flying (which used a mechanism that I commonly use), but there WAS a problem to solve and was necessary for the solution. There were also problems with it when it didn’t work when it was supposed to.

Flying or falling dreams are apparently very common. I don't recall ever having a flying/falling dream, though. Maybe I'm special. 🙂
I don't put a lot of value in dream interpretation. I see dreams more as an indication that something is rattling around in my mind. Something is being processed. But the dream isn't indicative of what needs to be processed. If I have particularly vivid dreams or more nights of dreaming than average, I usually try to do an emotional check-in with myself in the morning. I just check in and gauge if I'm stressed or anxious about something. But at other times I just marvel at what my brain just conjured up. Where the hell did that come from?? 🙂

Yeah, and usually around 4:00 am. And then I wake and ponder. 😡My dreams are always about solving some problem. Try writing it down. It doesn't have to be prose. Just a couple of notes about what you're supposed to worry about or solve. It might help you go back to sleep. Solve it tomorrow.

My dreams are very pretty realistic in that they follow physics and have directionally correct lighting and colour shading for the atmospheres. Not every dream is realistic and really the majority are fuzzy, but in the ones that appeared ever so realistic, even textures and surface temperatures were indistinguishable from reality. You know the feedback you feel when you walk or touch a surface? It was all there. There were a few that I thought I had awoken from, only to realize I was still dreaming.
The topics of my dreams have range pd from meeting someone who in reality had passed away, to simply surviving. I’m usually a teenager. One of the most interesting locations was an abandoned olympic training centre, several others had a torrent of rainfall in cities. I’ve visited the same place a few times.
The brain can be a mystery.

Yeah. One where a buddy and I became lodged in an abandoned building between a fast running river and a highway. Big cables running through it. He had this long white pole that lit up on the inside with multicolor lights, that was supposed to indicate where along the power cable length you could tap into and between.Where the hell did that come from??
So we could run lights to see after dark; a little upcoming problem we had that needed a fast solution.
I've heard it said the brain is just a problem solving machine. Even in sleep, it's making this stuff up for me. Guess I dont have enough daytime problems, after retirement. Glad to read it's not just me.
That's one way to look at the brain - like a problem solving machine. Annoyingly, though, it is very good at finding problems to solve, including problems that don't exist, don't need a solution, or do need a solution but not at 4 o'clock in the morning. One could argue that anxiety is the result of this problem solving tendency.
I forget if it was last night or the night before I had to help a friend keep her brain inside her skull. It was protruding through a round opening about the size of my palm. So I put my hand on her head to keep her brain in. She didn't seem affected by this.
The dream was remarkable both because of the content, but also because it's pretty rare that I dream about specific people. But that was definitely one of those, "where the F... did that come from?!" types of dreams.
A therapist might say that how you feel in the dream could be important. For example, if you always have recurring dreams where you're feeling high levels of fear then you might want to treat the underlying causes of that fear. PTSD, for example.
Thankfully, it seems the world has mostly moved on from the Freudian dream interpretations. As even Freud once said, "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar".

I'm more or less along for the ride. Would like to learn how to play "Silent Lucidity" on guitar one day and eek out the lyrics. Cool song about that.
This happens to me frequently. There are at least 3 places that I have been to in my dreams repeatedly. None of them exist in reality, as far as I know, but they are the same each time they recurr. One is an airport (just woke up from that place about 20 minutes ago). One is a very strange house. One is a field near the ocean.I’ve visited the same place a few times.
I used to have a wide variety of weird dreams. Often, they were more like a child's "night terrors." I died in most of them, usually by drowning, which is pretty odd for someone who grew up in Miami with a lake in the back yard and the Atlantic Ocean a bicycle ride away. I played in both of them often. I have been on prescription sleeping pills for 30+ years that numb the brain enough so that I don't wake up in the middle of the night screaming any more. If I had a dream, I rarely remember it. I probably have more dreams than I can remember now, but there were a few repeat performers that occurred often enough that I remember the details.
I had a recurring strange dream many years ago when I still lived in Florida and worked at a large Motorola plant. The plant was physically typical for Florida, almost a million square feet sprawled out over about 100 acres in single or two story buildings. In my dream there was a multi story parking garage on the campus and myself along with several other faceless people would engage in a destruction derby of smashed cars on several floors of the garage. At the end I found myself walking down the exit ramp when a guy pulls up beside me and shouts, "Wow man that was a good way to f#%k a truck!" I have not seen it, but I have been told there is now a 4 story parking garage on the campus. No word on the fate of any trucks. That dream has not replayed in many years.
When I first retired, and left Florida, I kept having the same recurring dream that my daughter would come to live with us bringing along a husband, two kids, a dog and a white minivan. She was a newlywed who had run off to Idaho with a religious cult a$$hole., so I didn't think much of the dream. Now 10 years later she is here, living in a house that we own and provide for her, husband number two, 4 kids, a 120 pound monster dog, and a grey minivan. That one did come true and bit me right in the butt. We just paid $1800 to get the fricking minivan fixed.

I have had the same occurrence many times in my 70+ years. I could be working on something, a stupid circuit idea, a non electrical problem without a solution, a non cooperative computer, or even an issue at work that seemed unsolvable. It could be a fresh problem, or something that has been an issue for several days. I'll fall asleep one night, then wake up the next morning and fix it immediately without ever remembering any dream or any recollection of even thinking about it.I've heard it said the brain is just a problem solving machine. Even in sleep, it's making this stuff up for me.
I had a funny dream once, and it's on-topic!
[Before the dream]
During the evening, we had been partying and my flat-mate had been pumping out Nirvana at stupid volume from his system. I don't remember exactly what speakers he had, maybe some Wharfedales with 8" drivers. Anyway, suddenly the right-hand speaker started sounding terrible, and when we removed the cover, the speaker surround was torn to shreds. My friend was a bit annoyed, but we carried on partying in mono until the early hours.
Before I woke up in the morning a had a vivid dream, that we had taken the cover off the other speaker, and that too was all ripped up like the first one. Of course I mentioned this to my friend, and so we checked. And yes, the prophecy was true...

I've only had one recurring dream that I can remember and it's only the theme that's recurring, not the exact details. It involves flying and falling, but never all the way to the ground. I'll be flying along, arms out spread like wings and its glorious... at least until I begin to think about what I'm doing. Then, I begin to fall before relaxing, forgetting about the mechanics and just fly like I was born to it. Then, inevitably, I start thinking about it again and begin to fall tumbling through the air until I'm able to put it out of my mind and start to fly again.
I guess it's my subconscious yelling at waking me, Don't aim, just shoot

My “flying” dreams always involve “anti gravity shoes” or something similar, and often being towed by a drone. There is never any fear of falling or death, because the equipment is SUPPOSED to work. There have been failures to launch, but never mid air failures.
Once in a while I dream about setting up some monster sound system. I usually end up waking before I even finish. Once I actually got through tuning and the sound check - but woke before the band took the stage. It’s as far as I ever got.
Places are always recurring. Even if it’s some place I never remember being in real life - I still end up coming back over and over. There have been many over the years, and two favorites that show up more often than any other place.
The only ones that ever frighten me involve strange astronomical phenomena. Multiple suns/moons, often moving in crazy trajectories and at speeds that would likely be relativistic if it actually happened that way.

When my life was stress full. I had a recurring dream about a strange old house that made me feel strange and un comfortable.
Often froze my movements or even morphed me into some basement with strange upper floor bracing. Strange concrete stair entry.
Sometimes I would be in a beautiful place or walk up too a nice house and admire it. Then it would change or morph to the exact same
old house. Always a window I was being watched from. Never seen the Witch, but for some reason knew it was a witch. Why dont know.
Either changed to the basement or changed to a strange attic. Never seen her ever in the dream, just felt her presence.
Had a dream I built a beautiful bathroom or made big rooms for dancing/parties , morphs into the witches attic and I get the same frozen cant move feeling.
Before that Was always Flying dreams , Pyramids or infinity symbols with a certain order of colors and other geometric shapes.
When hanging out with friends, if I thought a certain way and concentrated I could make myself fly.
They were always amazed. My fly height was limited to my concentration. When I eventually got higher I always wake up.
Also a recurring dream of a white van, which always got damaged after I parked and returned to it, stolen tires, removed engine, body dented etc
No matter how bad it was I always made it work again. But always very stressed and always woke up never getting to where I needed to drive.
usually work, or needed to drive somewhere to help somebody. I always got it running again but never get to where I was going.
