Hi!
Its time to change drivers in my ML-TQWT boxes. So,after looking for new drivers,im not sure wich is best choice.
So please, share your opinion. Fostex 167 with bad cone and all other problems perform very well in this boxes, and as owner od dallas II horns with fostex fe206en inside,i have faith in fostex ff165wk that will perform well. Markaudio looks better on paper, specialy PLUVIA model, but i know it not always beter sounding what looks better on paper.
So im open for sugestion and your opinion.

Here you can see boxex and old fostex inside.

The FF165wk is more or less a drop-in replacement for the old FE167E. Not 'the same', but as far as use in acoustically large (or relatively so) enclosures goes, it's quite close, the slightly higher rated Q compensating for its reduced rated Vas. The two units are typically a bit closer than the official specs suggest anyway, particularly when production tolerance is factored in. You may (may) find it slightly underdamped with the 165, but only slightly & that's easily addressed by a small amount of extra damping -just use the old click test to address that (Dave has kindly re-drawn the original diagram). The 165 on paper doesn't get quite as high, but the 167 in practice didn't motor up all that high anyway. An alternative would be the FE166NV2 -Q is a bit lower, but assuming you don't have a high output impedance amplifier e.g. a SET or similar, in which case Q will be artificially raised & the design alignment changed whatever driver you use, you can fix that by adding a suitable power-resistor in series with the driver (about an ohm should do it), or changing your speaker wire for something with a higher loop resistance.

Thank you for sharing your experience and explaining details.
Fostex FE166NV2 its hard to find in europe,at least im struguling to find it. And price is almost double then FF165WK,this i can get for 200€ pair.
And thise speakers are my shop speakers so i would like not to spend to much on new drivers. They will be dusty so if i put expensive ones,my hart will be broken😎
I have one idea btw,i dont know if that will work but sure i will try it when i deside what to buy and when i buy drivers.
As i have dallas II horns with FE206EN,they sufer from distorzion and harshnes on bigger volume. And i love to be blown away with music. So,idea is to put smaler 6.5" FR driver on the top in OB configuration. I have also super tweeters in horns and big woofer fro ACE bass wich go flat almost up to 20hz. So bass i have enough,HF also but im wondering,if i put OB FF165 on top of dallas II,can i get more mid level and more purity on higher dB? Then fe206 can work on lower level where is pure and ff165 give extra dB.
But wil they be sincronized if i use them without XO? Or i get more dB but big mess?
