Greetings! I'm here to participate in a few threads about Full Range and Dual Concentric drivers I've been using for nearly 15 years in my analog systems. My current setup based on big Tannoy System '15 DMT mk2 and you can easily scroll down my instagram for images of this setup and audiophile related stuff. As for the old system based on heavily upgraded Zu Audio Druid full range speakers you can check my gallery here and there.
Few years ago I build a custom made analog system for a new wine bar in Tel Aviv (Israel) using the latest '15 inch full range Audio Nirvana drivers in a 273 litters cabinet of my own design. Now I'm happy to learn more about DIY, so this is why I am here.
Thanks

Welcome to diyAudio :^)
Big 15” AN fullranges (the Druid is not a FR). BigUn likes his. They don’t really like being in that small a box. I’d be interested in the design (Post in the FR forum). None of the ANs i have heard were very good. People who have heard this one tend to like them.

Hi @planet10
My main reference speakers in my studio for many years are 100db TANNOY System '15 DMT mk2 and none of the other can compete with them, and I've heard many Tannoy speakers of different size. I prefer professional line, because the DMT cabinet is much better than poorly made vintage Tannoy hi-fi range I've tested.
My System '15 Tannoy are fully original in mint condition and I love them. I use Yamamoto A-08s SET power amp with vintage 45 tubes from 1930s. My pre is passive First Watt B1 (sometimes I use my Pass Labs Aleph L passive/active).
Regarding my Zu Audio what do you mean they are not full-range?
Zu Audio Druid is a full-range driver without crossover, super tweeter added via high-pass filter. The last upgrade kits purchased from zu pictured above (replaced the driver, super tweeter with metal lense and high-pass network).
However, the Zu are too small for my 32 square meters room and no longer in use after I purchased much bigger Tannoy.

@planet10 When you build something for a public place the key factor is the budget and simplicity. Audio Nirvana '15 inch drivers are reasonably priced and easy to order from David in the USA. I've checked how they sound in another bar locally and they were the best sounding by far compared to several more expensive DIY multi-way speakers based on JBL components I've heard in Tel Aviv bars.
I don't like small cabinets and I hate open baffles, so the AT "15 enclosure I made is actually 297 liters (just measured again) each which is huge, could be even bigger, but big enough for the small wine bar they are in now.
I will post pics later in appropriate thread

TANNOY System '15
The reference speaker for All the PASS guys. Kinda coloured, but evertone knows them well and the consistency is more important than the lack of fidelity. I’d love to see whta can be done with the 10”. The larger ones struggle to reach the horn. To get them time coherent probably requires a DSP time delay on the tweeter.
DMT looks like a smaller reflex, i found that many of the vintage Tannoys tried to get more bottom and boxes were larger, and not the kind of alignment i like. Given a chance to do it over again, i’d make my miniOnken design for the 12” Goldnbsomewhat larger (almost expected given diy T/S parameters.=).

The midBass is really only capable of 5kHz Amd the tweeter comes in an octave higher. But mostly here a fullrange system is a singke driver. Or one supported by bass drivers (ie a WAW).

Hugely expensive IMO and David is no longer in business. Easy to use, i think only practical in something like a bige Boffle, or really huge sealed box.

@planet10 Tannoy System 15 DMT mk2 are professional main studio monitors, so in the professional field they must be neutral, because people mixing and mastering on them in production studios. It's quite different from hi-fi listening at home, but I love them. They are 10 times cheaper than Westminister Royal though.
I respect Nelson Pass, but not considering myself as a "PASS guy". The amplification in my system is TUBE AMPLIFICATION with this amp. I use Nelson Pass preamp because it's absolutely neutral (it's a passive puffer preamp First Watt B1), so I am a tube guy when it comes to Tannoy.
But for the Zu Audio Druid speakers I purchased current source amp First Watt F2J designed by Nelson Pass especially for full-range drivers/speakers 🙂
Anyway, I ended up with Tannoy and SET tube power amp.

David (Audio Nirvana) sold us another pair of Audio Nirvana '15 for another project of my friend last year and communicated with us by email, so I think he is still in business. I don't think anyone can find much cheaper '15 inch full range drivers anywhere. I prefer to buy what I listened personally, chinese junk floaded the market with rave reviews, everyone is a blogger and reviewer now. For a public places like small bars Audio Nirvana are fine drivers, the price is low, the size is big, the sound is sweet.
For critical listening in a high-end sound system I would never buy those cheap drivers.

Some are really quite good. The AN were made in Taiwan IIRC.
I have yet to hear any 15” FR that were satisfactory (or 12s or 10s), but i have heard few and 90% of what is out there is not very good (in general across all sizes). I am always willing to listen to stuff that is new to me.

In my experience in a 32 square meters room with a high ceiling the difference between small and big drivers is always in favor of the big ones, same with speaker cabinets. Except for really near-field listening, this is where I have a very small 8 inch Tannoy or even a pair of headphones.
