The KSA1015 is end of life. this transistor was used in repair and updates for some vintage receivers. I could not find a substitute for it. Does anyone know a good sub ???

OnSemi. My most hated manufacturer. They acquired Fairchild, and have been systematically obsoleting useful audio devices ever since. They also acquired Sanyo and spent the time ever since likewise obsoleting audio devices.

If it does not go in a mobile phone, flat screen TV, or domestic white goods or similar huge markets OnSemi lose interest in a hearbeat.

OnSemi has only been around for 25 years, starting as a Motorola spin out. Guess what has happened in that quarter century to useful Motorola devices?

It’s not only onsemi obsoleting tht devices. Ksa1015 is a clone of a Toshiba 2sa1015, which was EOL years ago. Lots of Japanese semi companies are long gone, so beating up on onsemi only, makes no sense to me since everyone is in the same situation.
This has been writing on the wall for many years.

Everybody and their dog makes the C1815 copy. My old surplus dealer (where I got my supply, years ago) called them “the most popular Asian transistor on the market”. It would stand to reason they also make the A1015. It’s like buying 2N3904/6’s, although a little more audio-oriented.

OnSemi has been on the warpath since the turn of the century. If we’re not careful, MJL3281’s (and all of their derivatives, including 21194) will go away. Those will be the last man standing. The largest market for their audio outputs/drivers is pro audio - and the class AB market segment is diminishing rapidly. When the volumes finally get too low, ALL of it will disappear. I just hope somebody with two brain cells to rub together buys the IP.

Look at Toshiba today as an example of where Onsemi is heading in the future with regard to discrete bjt.
I just bought the last Mouser stock of KSA940, I have to move on, even if I have to sub MJE15033
Its not like the markets dead, its re-arranging itself, self alignment economics style. companies like EVVO have emerged just recently. I'll try them out. Sure folks will put them down without even trying them out just because it gives them a platform to blow smoke out their butt.
Profusion just signed a deal with KEC.
If competitors can undercut onsemi on price, even though it might not be exactly the same, their market, China, is within their own country, so it only makes sense that onsemi bows out and the Chinese mfr's take over. All the Onsemi parts I have are packaged in China anyways, so where were is the die/dice made, China too?

If Profusion signed a deal with KEC that’s a sign that their stuff is good. They and Unisonic have been picking up the slack lately on all the VAS/drivers that have been going EOL/NLA over the last 10 or so years. There are enough reports out there - and while not always exactly the same, the parts are of sufficient quality and characteristic to work well in those intended applications. It remains to be seen however, if they can make a 150 watt sustained-beta device which can maintain freedom from second breakdown to 50 volts, or to 100V at reduced fT. If they can come through on this we have our source for the next 20, 30 years. Others have tried. Everything I’ve seen so far is failure.

End Of Life is the distribution channels kindly telling you that it's time, right now, today, to buy however many you need for the rest of your foreseeable future. If you need them, you will not regret having 100-200 on your shelf in a few days when they arrive from Mouser or DigiKey. (100) is sixteen bucks, so less than $25 shipped.

Google tells me that there are possible substitutes apart from the 1815:
2SA1267, 2SB560, KT3108A, BC212, BC257.

Don't worry about supply, somebody will make it if there is demand, but do invest $25 for peace of mind, buy up a few.
The equivalent devices may be of excellent to mediocre quality.

And yes, it does seem that Unisonic in Taiwan has found a line of business in making parts that have been declared EOL by the original maker, and they are of good quality.

There are others also in that niche, but finding that particular supplier's material in a place where you can acquire it will take some searching.

No ties, as usual...
