NAD 521 with "audio modification"... worth buying?

Hello everyone,
I need a bit of advice. I have the opportunity to buy a NAD 521, which was revised and got an "audio modification" in 2015. The seller asks for €75, with p&p I will end up at around €85 (roughly $90). Its unclear what this "audio modification" means, the seller does not know. I attached a picture from the PCB. The Display looks rather dim on the pictures the seller provided.
Is it worth it? Ist the price okay? The device itself looks very clean and without any damage. I know there are quite some versions of the 521 around, with the plain 521 being the oldest. Should I look for a 521 BEE, which will be around €200 in my area?
I am looking for an affordable, good looking "vintage" CD Player with robust mechanics which can be upgraded with better components. The motivation to do this is more to learn a bit and just for the fun of modding. I do not expect to create something real high-end.
Cheers, Robert

The unit is 20+ years old and CD players, in my experience, have a short life compared to amps, speakers, and tv's with no moving parts. Why not look on amazon where the average price for a new unit with warranty that can be returned with no objections is $CAN-50.

NAD was over hyped junk to start with.
Headache to repair. Do not bother.

Look for Japanese units, or do it my way...use a DVD-R drive in PC, those are still easy to obtain, less than $15 for the drive.

There were companies in Delhi making DVD players with built in audio amp, and USB in, for about $25, and they used ready drives for the players.
They could run on 12V, popular in buses...

NAD = New Acoustic Design.

They were made to a price, British code for low budget stuff.
The CD mechanism could be Philips, or no-name Chinese.
Overall, it needs experience and lots of patience to tackle maintenance and repair.

And if it has been modified, it is a one-off, and you are in doo-doo creek without a paddle if something goes south.

Your money, your decision.
