Finally got the chance to see it. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Go see it folks.
After Sean Bakers “Red Rocket (2021)” again a modern fairytale at the wrong side of society. Recommended!

🙂
I have seen trailer... Classic story of average Eastern Europe (and Russia) girl dream: work in "recreation service industry for men" then chose one of the clients to milk him hard, is it?

Maybe, maybe not 🙂
Well, the young girls from my country of my generation emigrated en masse for the better life, some ended in such stories, but not many with happy or mediocre endings.
Best thing was the comment by the host about someone actually standing up to a powerful russian...
Watched it the other night. Good film. Mixes drama and humor very effectively. Little too much graphic sexuality from the perspective of the male gaze for me, but given the story line it's not entirely gratuitous.
It deserves all the awards it won, even if doing so encourages Russian nationalism.

Main actress really shined. Also nice to see actors that were in Red Rocket (2021) like Brittney Rodriguez (small role but improving). Especially Karren Karagulian in the role of the stressed but focussed Russian orthodox priest Toros. The man keeps growing.
Felt a strong “Uncut Gems” (a masterpiece of unsettling unrest) vibe throughout the movie.

Funny thing is that he actually is Russian.
Let’s hope Sean Bakers next movie will be just as entertaining. He sure will have budget. The Safdie brothers seem to be in sports movies and the Coen brothers seem to have retired.
BTW Companion (2025) was OK.

I started that Safdie movie, then had to pause and regroup myself. I knew it was good and I had to force the directors and cast to abuse me. It paid off well. Although I struggle to watch such levels of violence, as I have an acute ability to internalize the feeling/content like it was real, it was a top-tier production. The Academy Awards stone walled it! I advised one of my brothers to watch it, as he would love it, but he too stopped at the beginning and never continued.Felt a strong “Uncut Gems” ...
I will get to Anora soon(It's in my library). Sounds like it is up my alley. Cheers.
Oh, the Sadfie brothers look like they have gone separate ways.
“To abuse me” LOL. The right wording.
First movie in a long time that felt like a roller coaster ride inclusing gasping for fresh air at the end. Respect for Adam Sandler went up from 2 to 8.
Too bad the Safdie brothers split. Seems stopping before peaking. Or maybe stopping exactly at the peak.

I don't think I've ever seen anything like Uncut Gems. It is a stand-out piece of art.
Sandler performed well in Punch Drunk Love (2002). Although the film is categorized as a romantic comedy(it is sort of), it also delivers dark undercurrents and outright violence. It is such a unique film with an interesting ensemble. I had a crush on Watson back in that era.
Sadfie's at the peak, it seems but what if they stayed together, fought through their differences and became even greater.
The Brutalist was good. I could edit it 45 minutes less and you'd never notice. Ha. Key producers and director were taking too many drugs and searching for art that wasn't there on the reels they shot.

Thought it was about autism. Recognised a lot as I deal with audiophiles 😉 Dark undercurrents and a good Adam Sandler indeed. Couldn’t finish Spaceman (2024) though.
The Brutalist is on my list. What about the already older The Substance (2024). Never saw someone eat like Dennis Quaid did. Found Demi Moore playing well and admitting to age. A good thing really. Not my genre but in the pool of average stuff it was sticking out.

Compare and contrast Anora with Emilia Pérez, anyone who has seen both? I only saw Pérez and found it way more subversive than Conclave. Have not seen Anora.
