Hi All,
I am toying around with the idea of building a class D amplifier using ICE modules. I have (3) power supplies from some old Denon 250 watt class A mono block amps that died many years ago. The power supplies look very beefy, huge tansformer and capacitors.
Would it be worth trying to do something like this with them?
Thanks,
Axis

This power supply is more suitable for a PA amp... Unless you have a very large listening room... Not a fan of icepower.... Fragile and disposable!
With such output voltage at transformer level, some UCD modules could be suitable. 🙂

Appreciate the reply mamocel. When the amps were functional I had them driving a pair of Acoustats that weren't particularly efficient. That was a lot of years ago and I have been out of the hobby for a long time.
I don't have the skill to build something from scratch so thought using an amp module would be the next best thing. I really need a project and this would give me some much needed experience. The power supplies really are a beast and no telling what they weigh by themselves, 6" diameter transformer about 4" tall. Caps are a good 2" diameter at around 6" tall.

So I have narrowed down a list of amp modules that could possibly work with my power supplies. It looks any one of these would be well below the distortion threshold that my ears can hear.
The NCx500 is going to be out of my price range for this project. The Ucd700LZ looks like an older model and maybe not too far off from the NC500. The ICEpower is dirt cheap and if two modules could be bridged it could give some serious power (thinking maybe subwoofer duty).
Anyone have any thoughts?
