Just have a few questions on wiring sub to amp. And sub enclosure recommendations for home audio. First off I have a Skar EVL-12 DVC 4ohm and a BASH 500 plate amp, I don't know how to correctly wire these . Being a dual voice coil sub I don't want to wire it wrong and damage my amp. And yes I know this is not the best speaker for home audio but it's what I have. Also is a car audio enclosure different than home audio? Finally any recommendations for a box builder program that works with mac.
The BASH 500 is only rated to 4ohm operation (500 watts) and 325 watts at 8 ohms.First off I have a Skar EVL-12 DVC 4ohm and a BASH 500 plate amp, I don't know how to correctly wire these.
Not much power for a 2500 watt peak driver with 23.5 mm Xmax
Since it is not rated for 2ohm operation, (two 4 ohm voice coils in parallel) you should wire the dual coils in series: Amp "+" to coil 1 "red" , coil 1 "black" to coil 2 "red", coil 2 "black" to Amp "-".
Car subs dimensions are often determined by trunk size, and tend to run small. Also is a car audio enclosure different than home audio?
Generally the car's small cabin results in large amount of gain in low frequency that won't be heard in a larger acoustical environment, so usually a "flatter" response (larger) cabinet is desired for home use.
I don't know of a program that can build a box😉Finally any recommendations for a box builder program that works with mac.
This one looks OK to give you dimensions:
https://subbox.pro/en/design/?bt=2&...n=&pt=3&pq=1&rf=32&pd=136&pw=2&pa=154.85&pp=0
Though when you load Skar's "Reccomended Enclosure Specifications":
It generates a port that will need to be folded to an "L" shape due to being longer than the cabinet width.
The port would have to turn 1.94" from the cabinet left side.
If you go with the 32Hz tuning frequency (Fb) set the BASH subsonic filter to 25Hz.
Just connect dual voice coil in series so impedance is friendly.
Dual coil is just normal 4 layer coil with extra taps.
Normal everyday 4 layer coils are just connected in series in the coil itself.
Usual solution is running windows emulation on Mac with wine or whatever weird named
programs you guys have to deal with.
Since basically Virtuix Cad will do everything from alignments to measurements to crossover design
