Looking to upgrade from SEAS 27TAC/GB

HiI am currently using this Seas driver in a 12 inch three way system using the SB34NRXL75-08 and Arum Cantus AC130F1, XO at 350hz and 3200 second order. Its a pretty high end system using CJ electronics and Holo dac, etc. I want to play. Im thinking of trying a new tweeter. (I guess if other designers are not enamored with the mid I could do that instead but I wanted to start with the tweeter). My budget is say $500 for the pair. I'd like it to drop in to my current flange opening (104mm or 4.1 inch). Thanks

My opinion is that once you've heard one good 1" dome tweeter you've really heard them all. Yeah there are small differences between them and some can go much lower than others if that's important to your design. But overall they have very similar performance. Flat frequency responses, low distortion, and very similar off axis.

If you want to try something different then you need to actually go for something different. A waveguide, for example, and try a different off axis presentation. Even if it's only a small waveguide. Something like the SEAS 27TBCD/GB-DXT would be a good introduction and would fit into your current cutout. The crossover will need a significant redesign.

Another option would be one of the ring radiators. The R2604/833000 from Scanspeak for example. These also have a different dispersion pattern Vs your SEAS tweeter that you might prefer.

If you wanted to try a ribbon the only one I'd recommend is this...

It's expensive but it is one of the only ribbons that can truly compete with domes in my opinion. I wouldn't bother with the one without the waveguide but it only fits a 110mm cutout.

Personally I'd go with the DXT and see what you think.

Then upgrade the midrange if you wish.

Thank You 5th Element. I heard the Viawave it is impressive but I dont think it is available anymore. I may be wrong. So a couple of drivers that are not domes that fit are the Fountek Neocd10.5 and Mundorf AMT19CM1.1C. Are any of these any good?

BTW with my current driver I have read that some uses have a notch filter but I m not using one. maybe I should implement one. I will take a look at the 27TBC....
