Taramps MD5000.1 DC in Speaker poles

The customer was hooking up this amp and felt the speaker terminal was the B+ Rem Gnd terminals, I’m not seeing any burnt parts but has 12v to the PWM chip but no pre drive from the PIC chip. I’m not getting any five volts from the TI dip regulator but I use a +5 induce voltage to power pic but to avail amp is still dead (no lights at all) could it be the PIC is damage from the wrong connection?

yes i do, but for an instance while applying the voltage the chip was a bit warm, but while conducting further test with the voltage applied the PIC chip fried. Thus i need a replacement before i can go further, unless i make modification to a mini daugter card to just start the powersupply. but yet to know what else could be bad on the output drive circuit and other parts.

Not so sure about the MCU but the guys at Taramps always have a welcoming towards parts purchase direct from them just a bit high on the shipping from Brazil. Would have to see how far the customer wants to go in the amp's restoration, in the mean time I'll check locally to see if any of my tech friends has a broken amp with that part on it.

I removed the filter caps as they are bulging and one of them the internal is shaking.
@Perry Babin the MCU was overheating and had little mark on top which happens to blew spark when i added the 5volts direct with my bench supply in which i upped the amperage as the volts from the unit (amplifier) was sinked to zero same with the regulator, in fact i used a 9v and only gotten about 2v with it been heating up, so i purposedly use the bench supply while increasing the amperage it just finished blew out in a small flame. I just need that chip before i can go further.

I think your record is wrong, there isn’t any 7812 in front or near the IC9…pin 8 of the regulator (PA4Q) is the voltage out that goes to pin 9 of the MCU, which I tried to induce direct voltage. You could be correct on another Taramps but not on this.

which version do you have, i have 8 different schematics for the 5K. The mcu is powered from IC9 that is a TPS7A6601.
You installed a 7805 regulator to the optional pins where a voltmeter is installed in some models.
Did you check R21 )1R/0.25W ? Contact Taramps to buy a new mcu or else you cannot repair this amp.

I give thanks for all the persons on here that helps me time to time and i appreciate and welcome all input.
ive checked R21 and it was ok even before i input the direct voltage, there was no voltage from the regulator, but as i said the chip had a score mark that further burst into flames while i put voltage on the B+ pin.
The version i have is the R08_Ver3
I would have to contact Taramps for the MCU if the customer wants to go thru with the repair.

Yes, I did order more than one. On the MD800.1 I ordered 5 MCU and the IC TPS7A6601 5 as well the TPS IC was $1.40. The cost of shipping was more than the cost of the components. I would also suggest that Formas contact Taramps and ask them for help with his amplifier. The guys at Taramps are very helpful
