EverSolo DMP-A8 (AK4499EX/AK4191EQ) music streamer, DAP, DAC and Pre-Amplifier (Relay-based Attenuator) in one Device

Yes I have it. It is quite good but the DAC section is not stellar. Not bad, even quite good but just not excellent. Using XLR instead of RCA makes a positive difference.

Apparently I can live with it as I notice my external AKM based DAC to stay switched off (although it certainly is better). There is an improvement when using external 1:1 transformers. Leakage current? RF? I haven't bothered to open it or to measure it. I just use it. As a consumer. Shocking!

Operation is good, app is also good, display is nice. One gets a lot for an affordable price. The possibility to install an internal SSD is a nice addition too. Probably one of the best devices for the money today.

Hummm, I hopped it was stellar instead due to the chips pedigree, maybe as often they do not make good enough the I/V section, dunno ! The good thing seems the analog pre section to be very clear and way better than the digital attenuation of the dac chip when used.

The little Gustard have also the streaming network, plus also NAS via usb possibilities, but I don't know about what op amps they ised after the dac chip. I have not tested it myself, just read testimonials.

ES9038 in its variants... Have you ever heard one that you really liked? I liked the ES9028 better. Regardless of all the (to the end user) useless information and implementation talk etc. it just does not sound as good as recent AKM.

And believe me, I wanted it to be the best 🙂 It is outperformed both by my Quasimodo SU-1 (AK4493SEQ) and M200 (AK4497). Not by a large margin. No comparison with old PCM stuff as I don't have and don't want old stuff.

Anyway, I listen to music with it and that is why I bought it. No annoyance over sound quality or app/network issues. It just works.

I have to say I am a little PCM chips intoxicated, but here a member I rate the advices very high said to me he sligthy prefers his DIY japanese AK4499.

I have listened a Gd Audio ESS very expensive one, My TDA1541A very modded DAC beated it easily, the proprior was about to throw his AUDIO Grande through my window, a funny souvenir !

Yes, slightly. One can certainly live with this device and I have had devices that were just terrible. Or they were very good but the software was bad.

One of the outstanding ones is MXN10. No comparison with Eversolo DMP-A6 .. except for sound quality. Slightly!

Pardon but I only read now that OP asks for DMP-A8... which I found too large and way too expensive. I have the 700 Euro DMP-A6. Yup that is 1300 Euro less expensive so less risk.

OK, no problem I hope. I would never buy the highest priced model of a relatively new brand. Also I deliberately choose models that are sold in highest numbers as no manufacturer likes recalls and warranty issues.

ES9033Q. No the contrary, it is very good sonically. Don’t know what is said about it, I don’t read audio magazines/audio websites much. Don’t need sales advice 🙂

Serious thread-jacking so let’s quit.

dislexia due to aging... or soldering vapors, who knows.

I understood it is in the same part than your Eversolo, or a little less, correct ? Cambridge at 500 euros is a good price, even cheaper than any diy (network streaming).... maybe their little DAC is even better...

seems too they like the ESS at stereophile, the okto dac is ESS9028EQ if not wrong with simple op1633.

I've had an A8 for a few months now and I am generally very happy. It's got pretty much every connection you can ask for, space for an internal SSD for music, a good screen, a decent control app which I can even run on my Apple M2 Mac etc.

I am sure you can get a bit more absolute performance for the money with separate components, but as an all-in-one package where you can just click a button and get music I don't think you can find anything better.

EDIT: Updated - I meant an Eversolo A8
