More of a just rambling thread… I have had this 6174 for quite some time and have never gotten around to using it. My last H/T sub stage was IB with 2 18” XBl2 subwoofers from Adire Audio. We moved into a new house and they stayed with the old home.
Anyway, I have plenty of room for a large 4th order vented alignment and was planning on about 12ft3 and tuning low, around 18-20hz for this driver. Amplitude response looks quite flat like this and efficiency is high. I have a single Adcom GFA 555 to power it with, so that should be plenty in a box this size.
Has anyone ever played around with this driver in non-Pro Audio application? I have used many in the past for large format theaters, but never a small H/T.

This guy played around with this driver in a non-Pro Audio application:

Should be nice if you can put the big box in the right place in the small room!

That is pretty dang close to what I modeled, thank you for the link! I think this should work pretty darn good. I think I will have pretty decent extension to at least the low 20Hz range in room. The room doesn’t take a lot right now for decent SPL. We have a small, cheap, 6 1/2” powered subwoofer that came with a soundbar that actually has satisfying bass as it is now. This will subwoofer will be going in the same location as well.
Ready to test. Sprayed a gallon of deadener inside as well…

Nice!
Looks like you can flip the enclosure when you begin to notice the cone sagging.
Is the Fb 19Hz when down firing in the hinged cabinet?

I never checked Fb when installed, only in the driveway when facing horizontally. I doubt it changed much though.
And yes, I could flip it. You actually made me think of something too, I may flip it to see if it changes the room response as well!

I tried listening to it with the doors closed. At any appreciable level they are popped open by air pressure, they are only latched with small magnets. I think for most movies and any type of music I will leave them all the way open.
But, at low levels, the response has much more ripple for sure when they are closed and doesn't integrate well with the center channel. When they are open, they integrate very well at the listening position.

I have the sub LP at 80Hz 4th order for now as well. I haven't messed with any settings yet. I need to get the other 4 speakers installed and then will calibrate the system as a whole.
You are not alone! I also use the 6174 in my home theater.Has anyone ever played around with this driver in non-Pro Audio application?
I built the F-20 initially using the EV DL18MT.
