Speaker building parts/tools in carry on luggage

I’m visiting a friend and his boys…they are in the early stages of building a speaker…it’s their first one and they don’t have hardly any tools.

I have a twenty year carry on luggage only streak I don’t want to break and would like to bring the following with me….any problems?

Mylar dome tweeter
Speaker wire
Speaker terminals
Aux extension (3ft)
Aux to RCA
Wire stripper and crimper
Soldering iron and solder

The ones I’d think they might have issue with are the soldering iron and the wire stripper/crimper….but please inform me if there are others…or if you’d think no problem with any of the above.

I think you are right.

I’ve taken a 12” Richard Allan Disco 12 in hand luggage. It was queried and examined, but they let it through. This was in the UK however. Likewise computer motherboards and suchlike.

Is Amazon your friend here ? 🙂

All good ideas. Would definitely need it in writing as different TSA employees seem to have variance in their screening protocols.

Yes….I may have to sacrifice my twenty year streak of not checking anything in (even for a two week vacation)

I know I could just go to Walmart and then Best Buy after landing and purchase everything (except the tweeter)…but that would violate core principles instilled by my parents.

After additional research....all tools must be less than seven inches in length for hand luggage.
I'll just check a bag in as the wire strippers, crimper, and soldering iron are right at the length limit.

You could also ship the tools. A USPS flat-rate box might cost less than the checked bag fee.

I'd be careful about travelling with tools of any kind ... at least if you want the tools to be with you when you reach your destination. You're at the mercy of the individual TSA agent.
