New Member from Germany

Hi, I am a Danish citizen living in Germany since 39 years.
I have been into HiFi since more that 45 years. Here a short list of my equipment:

  • Cambridge CXC DC drive
  • Audio Note DAC1
  • Audio Note M1-Phono preamp
  • 2 Audio Innovations S800 power Amps (by-amping)
  • Martin Logan Aerius (not i)
I have often looked at different tweeds here on the forum and decided to join.

Regards

Hi Rino, welcome aboard! I, too, have been involved with this hobby/passion for over 40 years, vaguely recall the ML Aerius from my days selling Martin Logan. Matter of fact I had the pleasure of attending a training at ML which finished up with a trip to Gayle Sanders house to experience his Statements(?), and it was a memorable experience.

As @Jacruzer787 mentioned, I have an Audio Note DAC 1.1, which was 1 of my first kits and sits waiting for me to get back to troubleshooting it 🙁. Perhaps I could live vicariously through you describing how it sounds 😀, sort of kidding, but not really!

Up front, I have to admit possibly being biased when it comes to Audio Note gear. I have known Peter Qvortrup (founder and owner of Audio Innovations and Audio Note UK) for nearly 40 years. I lived in the UK at the time the first Audio Innovations S800 Pre and Power Amp set. I have spent quite some hours with Peter and know his sound philosophy.
That having said, with the right tubes the DAC 1 produces a very clean, analytic and most of all natural and pleasant sound. I have Telefunken smooth plate NOS tubes in my DAC and also in my M1-Phono. The Telefunken was quite an improvement to the stock tubes.
I am very happy with the sound.

I must admit that I do not have a lot of experience with other DACs. Before my current CD-Drive/DAC combination I had an Arcam Alpha Plus CD player which I had modifies with a Non-Oversampling board and a better clock. It sounded grate but not as good as the Cambridge - AN DAC1 combination.

Well, as English is not my mother tongue, I possible used the wrong expression to describe what I meant.
What I wanted to express was that the sound is well detailed, not compressed and very natural.

I must admit that I am not very good at expressing what I hear in words, sorry. I am very happy with the sound of my DAC.
