Ultracapacitor questions?

Hey guys I got an Ultracapacitor from Ian Canada and wanted to ask a few questions from people more knowledgeable than me.

I got it to put on my Ifi Zen Can Sig.

yes the bass increased but the definition degraded and the bass seems a bit too much.

is there something I’m doing wrong?

do I need to unplug the SMPS when using the Zen Can and just feed power from the Ultracapacitor?

thanks in advance !

Posting a schematic diagram, or at least an indication of where in the circuit you "upgraded" the capacitor, would greatly increase your chances of getting some useful guidance. Also please advise the original value of the capacitor, and what value you replaced it with. Otherwise, we can only guess at what you are doing, and that won't help you at all.

I didn’t replace any thing.

I plugged in the ipowerX into the supercapacitor and the power out from the supercapacitor to the Zen Can headphone amplifier as the manufacturer told me to do.

hope that makes sense.

so instead of plugging the Ifi powerX straight into the Zen Can headphone amp ( 5V 3A) , I plugged the Ifi powerX SMPS into the Ultracapacitor and the Ultracapacitor into the Zen Can Headphone amp, to provide additional current for more current draw when the headphone amp demands it.

I don't see how you can go wrong with that arrangement, or perhaps it would be more accurate to say I don't think you could have done anything better. So perhaps this "upgrade" was simply not to your liking - that does happen. Remove it and see if life improves. Was this "ultracapacitor" specifically recommended for your power supply? If not, it may be the power supply doesn't like a large capacitance on its output.

Not everything that seems fancy and hip brings sound improvements in all situations. We just lack the knowledge to predict this type of success. Maybe in a thousand years in a distant galaxy someone will know, but definitely not today and not on Earth.

The good thing is we have lots options for mixing and matching and with enough patience and luck some mixtures can work.

Happier people either don't hear such minutia, or simply ignore it.

yeah I didn’t think so either.
I was thinking maybe the adaptor jacks aren’t letting enough current in and out.
gonna get some 18awg cord for them instead of the flimsier jacks

these should supply enough current I think. As I had it connected with super short USB c connectors. Maybe the USB C was the bottle neck. I was reading that USB C can’t deliver much current.

yeah the designer Thoren L. Said it should give more peak current when needed.

thanks for your help btw. Super appreciate it!
