Hello,
For my upcoming preamp-project there is some search of Opinions.
My plan ist to build a e288cc Gain Stage followed by the 5 position Tilt Control and a Aikido CC wit ecc88 or 82 for the Outlet to the Power Amplifier. Hast anyone Here build the Tilt Control and hast any expirience with it?
Regards
Dieter

Is this for a turntable (RIAA) or flat gain with volume. I am using a standard bass/treble configuration driven by 6922 tubes and loving it.

It is a single tone control that tilts the spectrum around a chosen mid frequency.

Yar. I implemented one on a preamp for a friend that wanted tone controls. It has been awhile so details are fuzzy but I know we both didn't like going past one click. It does an S/reverse S curve boost/dip. Being passive, the effect depends on the load it is driving.
Broskie tilt control is intended to implemented just before the volume pot on your line stage or preamp. Component values of the tilt control depend on the nominal resistance of the volume pot.
You are correct, but the original version was also susceptible to variations due to the load imposed by the volume pot. I think this is why the version 2 was offered with options dependent on the resistance of the volume pot. I built a version 2, it seemed to work as designed. The effect was quire subtle, but sometimes that is all that's required.

I just ordered the V2 tilt control. If it is a 3 position switch, then position2 is equal to zero with a plus/minus position clicking CW/CCW? Broskie has some really cool thinking on this and volume controls too. This kind of reminds me of the Bottle Head 'FIX' circuit, adjusts the bass/treble in a different way? Hmmm. The BH circuit lowers the midrange in steps giving more bass/treble when total volume is raised.
I missed this topic when it first started. A little bit of additional info: Quad used a tilt control with same effect as Broskie’s, but using feedback as I understand it. Audio Amateur ran a preamp article in late 70s or 80s that included a design for a feedback based tilt control designed with an op amp.
For an opamp based one:

I don't know if it can be of help for an all tube stage but maybe it could.
I've implemented it in front of a distortion stage for drastic effect and it works great ( TL072 used as opamp).

I seem to recall a tube-based tilt control with a tube buffer at the front, and a tube op/amp for the filtering action, also in Audio Amateur. It will take me some time to find that article, though.
