Started my DIY research by looking into Troels, but to be honest, I'd rather put more money into the drivers than capacitors. Also, Troels' designs don't measure off-axis, and I happen to be in a suboptimal position quite often. I really like Monkey Coffins and towers since they look dope as hell and double as a shelf for my wallet and keys. I like the idea of the Open Source Monkey Coffin, but it's too damn expensive for me. Max I'd go for is 2k Euro for the pair. Troels' designs that tickled my fancy are Seas 3WC MkII, Faital 3WC-10, and Ekta MkII.
Here are some notes:
Possibly under 2k Euro for the pair
I'd prefer if they were neutral and flat
Prefer EU drivers since I am from EU
Towers or coffins
My living room is 4m by 6m
Already looked into Heissmann Acoustics, Speaker Design Works and OSMC, but still wondering what else is out there

Alexander Gresler has well-documented designs, which also are off the beaten DIY track. Certainly worth a visit.
X's XSD speaker. Grroup buy on crossover, and wave guide. Tower, dipole, 92 dB efficiency. Flat pack available, built mine for approx 2K US.

At the risk of sounding like a broken LP, maybe have a look at Paul Carmody's Tarkus and Pit Vipers or Curt Campbell's Uluwatu?

https://www.speakerdesignworks.com/copy-of-anthologys-2
Tarkus are Peerless and Vifa, Uluwatu is all SB Acoustics. Tarkus and Pit Vipers are 3 ways, Uluwatu is a two way MMMMMTM two way. The write ups will provide some good info about how they sound. Crossovers look straightforward and don't use expensive parts.

How about this one?

It's a big speaker though...
Another speaker from Curt Campbell and Jim Holtz:

There is also Joe Rasmussen's Elsinore speaker, which is tower and sensitivity is ~92dB.

Hi there,
i am quite sure that the base for a good design is the best as possible for the midrange driver
here i have seen spectacular posts here for this chassis, price about 100 EUR / Pair
most probably actually the chassis with the best value for money available
https://sbacoustics.com/product/8in-sb20frpc30-8-paper/
it's fullrange, fullrange is the best basis for excellent midrange performance
another candidate for good midrange performance is this here
TangBand W4-2142
https://www.tb-speaker.com/uploads/files/adeab4e5c13f40937a20a359efae37ec.pdf
my favorite 4 inch fullrange, quite expensive though
TangBand W4-1879
https://www.tb-speaker.com/uploads/files/702c0cc4303c843bd4e502c13ad4ab40.pdf
and as really easy to go full documented DIY project this here
https://www.visaton.de/en/products/3-way-speakers/nimrod
with the very good Visaton B100 fullrange driver as midrange driver
Another key for a good design for a multiway speaker is a decent time alignment of the chassis
If you are a good carpenter waveguides for the midrange and the tweeter to time align to the woofer are a good idea
So far - so good, Stefano
P.S.: the list prices for Visaton chassis are way too high, street price much lower
