Measuring preamp specs

I want to measure specs on a preamp. I have a computer based analytical system so I can measure output, distortion, frequency response, etc.

But, what about an output load. Shouldn't the device be under some load while under test? Perhaps it should be connected to an amp with is connected to a dummy load.

Should have specified - an audio pre.

Standard solid state preamp loading would be 10k in parallel with 1nF.
A tube preamp load should be higher, perhaps 100k.

The 10k is an easy load.
The 1nF is the worst case, since most cables combined with the amp input should be less.
