Marantz SACD player-reads CD, SACD-stopped reading DVD-A

Hello...new here...diy in many things but needs some input from tech in electronics 😉
As per the the title....stopped recognizing burned dvd-a.
Cleaned the lens...same issue persist...something on the mirror itself?..
thanks

1.many different dvd-a
2.no updates
3.just put in a dvd-a after unit has been playing non-stop since about 9 am different cds and sacd...and guess what...started playing dvd-a (checked random few, all good)...w/o any issues letting me choose folders, files....I am puzzled...'warmer lens' did this?

well, my joy was short...after playing few dvd-a same thing came back..'unsupported' is the message when repeat of the same ejected/inserted dvd-a was setup...puzzling...heat?...different moisture in a room affecting small connections?

to add....
total disappointment re this unit that I got sucked in (my fault)....most likely was told a lie and sold refurbished/stock b unit...
It is an expensive unit, so one would expect to last...
I have cd players (way less $$$) from early + mid 2000's etc...never had any problems...

I have the sa-ki-pearl SM... Marantz decided not to show any details about the disk drive in that SM

Post No. 2 should put you in the right direction.

Burned DVD-A (or DVD-rewritable if that's a thing??) will have much lower reflectivity. I'd look at finding the rf point inside that player, and ensuring that the pp level is as per SM. You'll probably find a few little trim pots on that laser assembly, one of which should be turned slightly clockwise, to increase the current to that particular laser that reads DVDs.

Some (good) CD mechanisms (from Sanyo) have an over-scan mechanism that spins the disk a bit 3 times, measures the reflectivity, and then adjusts the required laser level automatically.

If the RF amplifier Vcc is 3.3V, then the eye-pattern pp level should be roughly around 1.2V .

If the RF amp Vcc is 5V, the eye-patter (RF measuring point) pp level should be around 1.5V (+0.3V max), but this value varies from model to model.

Check the PDFs I attached... I believe all you need to do is to increase the laser power for DVDs ever so slightly.

Good luck

Thank you for your extensive post.
Update...player now has different ideas about playing sacd/cds as well...ie. no play.....play thru all w/o issues...play and stop at 2nd minute or 5th etc...
I ordered new laser assembly+belt

Can you give the reference that your player should play SACD-R and DVD-AR? This is a capability that is not common. Google search on your player brings up nothing about this capability for me. Unless you can confirm that it even should work you are wasting time and money on parts.

You'll note that there are already several KA series players confirmed to NOT play SACD-R:

? sacd-r??....it is about DVD-A...flac, wav, dsd64 files burned onto a dvd disk
Yes, it does ie. did in my case...versatile unit...cd/sacd/usb-a(dead in my case)/usb-b(dont use it, dont have a laptop...plus find it weird anyway to have a computer hooked up to a player, since one can have all of it on a usb key/external ssd drive).
First search line gives 'marantz sa-ki ruby' owners manual
As to capability...McIntosh does it very well...Sony UBP-X1100ES (that unit plays anything..)...Technics SL-G700 SACD (Panasonic does not list it and tells me that this feature does not exists...but it does play dvd-a from start, can not select folders, skip folders etc. )...Accuphase (listing that it does, but I think in the same way as Technics ie.w/o option of selecting folders)
