Setting up a wired only network/streaming system and need two 60 ft runs and five or so 6 ft runs, may as well go for cat8 while doing so. I have searched all over and the majority of what I can find is just a bunch of BS advertising, cut and past review sites, etc....lots of seemingly good deals on Amazon and Ebay but I keep finding those few 1 stars saying the cables are fake, poor quality, slower than cat 5, etc...
I am not buying "audiophile" branded cables, period, just something from well known manf like Beldon (bulk is to big a roll unless I can find a dealer for lessor a amount.)
DIY cables for a very long time, never found a need for paying nuts prices for questionable "improvements" over what I can do for cheap🙂
Any recommendations or leads would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rick

The two 60 ft cables will be built into the walls as I fur them out to add more than double the R value so I just want to put in really good wiring as going to be permanent. The others not such big deal as just router, switch, etc to streamer, computer, TV, etc.
Are you using the cables for network traffic? If so the resistance does not enter into the situation. Networking protocols are error correcting. The higher the CAT# the better the "shielding" and higher the bandwidth. This is a bit of an oversimplification but CAT 6 over 60 feet is very "sturdy."
If you are trying to find shorter lengths of cable try https://www.anixter.com/en_us.html They probably have anything you may want. I can't speak to there current sails model but I use to get lengths of wire ranging from 50 to 1000s of feet. Just did a quick read of there offerings and CAT is available in "any" length but you may have to call and ask if they will sell to you as a hobbyist else an account could be needed.
For what its worth

Thanks Jeremy, much appreciated🙂
The RV is the last place I plan to ever call home so doing everything to a very high level, Anderson windows and french doors, super insulated, 2cm Brazilian soapstone counter and desk tops, euro high end appliances, etc......and I keep saying just 1,000 hours of labor left to do...... I am 71 but my wife is only 59 and I may go before her, I want to ensure it is as well done as I can so she has no worries if that happens.
The long runs will be to the front where she spends time online at night and to her stand up desk in the rear in a slide out and buried in the walls, which are all getting treated to block every bit of EMF, etc I can achieve, roof, floors, windows, etc as well. We are full time RVing but parked for long term with 11 smart meters very close by and a couple of neighbors with way over powered routers.
The cost is not going to be much more than any other cable and minor in the grand scheme of things so just want to do it right for the long term in case things do change. Likely never get close to the data rate even cat6 can handle so doing this for the shielding more than anything.
I will check out the site, thanks again🙂

You can get armoured shielded CAT5e that probably fulfils your need, rated for external use which might be a good idea for automotive. However the flat CAT8 is probably easier to handle. Not sure about connectors for shielded CATx cabling - its been a long time since I wielded an RG45 crimptool in anger, and that was before shielding.
Thanks🙂
The cables will all be internal, two long ones inside a wall that is all foam and wood as needed then covered with quality maple or birch plywood and fine finished so have to be good cables, etc....
Having done more looking I am reconsidering and going to Cat 7 instead of Cat 8. I have several shorted Cat 6 cables in use but want to upgrade all the cables, 8 total, just to be a bit more, anal I suppose? 🙂

I will have to consider it though I do have some thoughts on it, old beliefs maybe...I prefer to not manipulate analog or digital info more than I have to. Converting from digital to analog and back again, if not done with very good gear, can introduce noise or perhaps another form of degradation into the signal. If there is a very clean and economical solution you know of please let me know and I can look into it as well.
Thanks🙂

You should not have any sort of problems if you are using a decent switch. Cat 6 cabling for 1GB is rated for 328 feet. I have strung alot of it over the years.
Not much need to go fancier unless you need faster or longer.

Another thing about Cat 8 is it only spans 78 feet but does 40GB. Cat 5-7 do 328 feet gracefully.
60ft is the longest or 20 meters, 66 ft I will ever need to use.
I am more interested in shielding than data rate.
Thanks🙂

I've recently renovated my app. Cat7 in wall, and i have no issue pushing 2.5Gbps (which is the limit per port on my modem). Overall over 150m wire trough the apartment, with avg length per wire is ~15m. So no worries about Cat8.
Thanks)
I might even just get two long Cat6 cables and wrap them in foil as they are going to be buried permanently in the walls, added shielding, not hard to do, I just need to find a decent deal on a couple of real Cat6 or Cat7 20 meter (66ft) or 60 ft cables.
