Lenco L85 - Spinning at 5rpm.... help!

Hiya,

I've had my turntable in storage for about 6 months, and begun using it again recently. The issue is that over the last week the speed hasn't been correct, and has now almost stopped spinning.

I've tried finding a service manual so i can have a go at fixing it, the one link i found was to an audio website where you had to register, and they were no longer taking registrations.

Can anyone help? The only L85 manual I've fond only has setup details, not troubleshooting or maintenance tips

I've never tried doing this before, but would like to as it's cheap and isn't worth paying to have fixed

many thanks in advance for any help
David

hi @renoaero

thanks for those, they don't seem to have my model - these seem to be much older versions?

mine is this one.....

Perhaps the motor needs some more oil on the bearings? Or drive belt is old and stretched? Normally platters are on a tapered axle and can be pulled off (there are holes in the platter under the mat I suspect) - pull symmetrically and carefully by hand. Then the belt and motor bearing ought to be visible.

I think you'd struggle to find a service manual for that turntable. If you are referring to Vinyl Engine, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have one as they dealt with more 'classic' gear. It doesn't help that there were two older Lenco L85 models as well.

That said, the first thing I'd check is the voltage output of the 12v power supply plugged into the back.

Mark's comment about the belt is a good one - it could have been stretched and slipping when the platter was turning slowly and now isn't gripping at all.

This is a made in china product sold by the current Lenco company that shares none of the technical heritage of the classic Swiss manufacturer.
https://catalog.lenco.com/

Go to the above link , open the drop down Manu on the upper right and go to support. If you get that and the tt is back to normal, just move it on while it is working so a little bit of what you spent on it is recovered. If the tt refuses to behave, then am sorry to say that it has to be disposed off.
After that please come over to www.lencoheaven.net where we can help you to find a classic idler drive Lenco and set it up to a level of performance far superior to this tt.

Regards,
