Hi Guys,
Sorry yet another CD104 question.....
I aquired one a few months back. Did deverything to it, replaced all capacitors and the grouding issue (griplets) resoldered the servo board. It works fine eye pattern is good and my test CD is fine. I have one particular CD that has a skip to it. It plays fine on my other player that CDM 1 MK2 but on the CD104 (CDM1 I think) it jumps like crazy. Its also slow to read the TOC. I've seen videos of the CD104 it loads in 2 seconds mine is double that. But it plays just fine.
Laser is adjusted to 500MV. Its all greased, height adjusted and I even played with the 2 screws that hold the laser. I even fiddled with all the other pots on the servoe board. It still skips the scratched track!
Any advice appreciated.

Are all your power supplies/regulations ok?
Spindle motor cleaned ?
Brushless or not?
No difference cold or hot ?

The CD player works perfect and all caps replaced already, soldered many of the boards.
Yes I clean the motor and checked the plastic bit underneath the spdinle motor and sanded it down.
Brushless
I always ran it cold. Started it up, tested scratched track and it skipped. Turned off, slight adjustment, set track and it jumped again etc.
I'm now letting it play the whole cd (45 mins) and I will test again as I don;t remember testing it warm. I will report back shortly.

After nearly 1 hour its almost exactly same. I know its jumps at 59 seconds exactly then bounces around till 1:12 then plays fine. This time it jumped still but just very so slightly less. I don't think its heat related
I will follow the progress of your research work on the subject because I have a problem which resembles (a little) yours on a Revox B226 which does not accept (and without any problem) all the golden CDs, but not the standard (not at all) and I can't find anything.
CDM1 too (I have few readers with CDM1) but many with CDM 2 and 4 and a few with CDM0, 9, 9 pro and 12 pro.

I have a friend who also has a CD104 with problems. Hes sending it to me. I will try fit his laser into mine and see if its any better.
Is there not some way to check the actual health of just the laser itself? I'm not very technical but if anyone reading knows a way please let me know. LIke measuring a diode with Multimeter? I have a scope but don;t really know how to use it LOL
