What if the horn woud be constant directivity extending way beyound the speaker basked and its back side was sealed towards the basked?
In having 4 elliptical holes in the horn could we approximately achieve what the K402 MEH does?

The SM60 from Danley Sound Labs does almost exactly what you describe, and it works well. I suspect there's a practical limit on how big the woofer can be to get usable response up to meet the CD, but I don't know what that is.
The Danley product seem to use 5-6" cones for most midrange duty, but you may be able to go bigger if you don't mind chopping off some excess headroom (assuming home use).
Hope this helps!

I specifically was thinking of the Radian
508 coax as the quality of it is excellent and the diaphragm can be exchanged for the beryllium one for ultimate sonics.

In the K402 MEH the comp. drivers are going down to approximately 600 Hz. It would be a stretch for the 1" compression driver but 800hz in domestic use would probably work ok.
I think the radian would work if you cut the dust cap and form the horn from the top plate out, I suspect that a crossover around 800 would be possible too.
Of note (from what I gather) the k402 meh uses either the dual diaphragm BMS or celestion Axi2050, both of which have significantly more LF output than typical dome CDs - hopefully you are already aware of this.

John Hasquin has used the Radian 475PB successfully down to 600hz on tractrix horns.
I use a modified Behringer DCX2496 to time align, crossover and for correction.
In my fist try I am going to use Eminence Beta 10 CX with Emilar EK175m as I have those laying around collecting dust.

I haven't seen the SM60 up close, but the SBH series works the same way, from what I could see. My video:
