What's next, folks?
Does any other part equal, much less improve on, the 5534A in noise performance?
Wish Doug Self still hung around here, would love his thoughts on this.

Well @DouglasSelf was around only the other day... so you never know 🙂

I grabbed some NJM5534DD at Mouser before they went obsolete. Purchased some SSM2134 too from a fellow ham.
For repairing or refurbishing old legacy gear that contains 5534 chips, you'll still be able to buy small quantities of New Old Stock parts -- at high prices -- and you'll need to decide whether the benefit exceeds the cost. Or you could do (this) today while the lifetime buy of brand new, factory fresh, 5534 ICs is still operating. Two hundred chips for less than two hundred dollars, including shipping.
If you're creating a new design from the ground up, you'll have plenty of options. Vacuum tubes. Discrete BJTs. Discrete JFETs. Mixed circuit designs using both discretes and ICs. All-ICs (just not 5534s). The world will go on; and very quiet, very accurate phonostages will be designed and built. With no 5534s inside.
